Do CFL light bulbs cause interference when recording?

I remember before LCD/LED monitors having to turn off my CRT monitors and flourescent lights when recording to avoid their buzz, but do the new CFL's (compact flourescent lights) have the same effect?  I've been converted and now love these things so I don't even have any other type of light anymore.  These are at least as bright, stay cool and use far less energy (plus they are now inexpensive to buy thanks to LED lightbulbs being the "new" thing).
 
Just curious if anyone knows - I haven't had to record with them yet.

Try in the X2 forum.  I hear that some folks have heard that Real Audio Engineers sometimes show up there.

Of course, I heard that Chicken, Corn and Fish are the same thing.  It's a trichotomy.

Too bad there are none left here these days.

I'm one....but sorry...I don't know that much about lights or electricity...and
after my recent dealings with both I'm just glad my house didn't burn down.
 
I think if I had lights that did mess with my recordings......I'd turn them off and light
a candle and if I were lucky as some I'd just start a fire and enjoy the trip.

I had a lamp burn out the other day and to avoid a trip down the stairs to fetch a new one...I just "borrowed" one from the studio lamp..... and that left me with no light there.... but I did just happen to have a CFL laying around so I put it in the studio.....

all quiet.

The CFLs have little tiny switching power supplies that take the place of the traditional magnetic ballasts.

The magnetic ballasts are safer, less prone to bursting into flame, and less prone to melting than the switching power supplies, but they spray Electro Magnetic Interference into your audio electronics.

That's why older florescent fixtures have the reputation of adding noise to audio circuits.

The CFLs don't exhibit that problem because the switching power supplies, which produce EMI and RFI as well, are routinely and effectively filtered for the EMI, and sheilded for the RFI protection by the manufacturers.
