Do I need multicore?

My P4 does not have the horsepower to run Sonar Prod 6 and a slough of Waves plug ins.  I need to upgrade my CPU.  Does Sonar P 6 and Waves Mercury bundle take advantage of multicore processors?  Is an i7 a waste of money on anything other than the newest software?

Thank you for your input.

nothing you can buy will be less than dual core.
if you do a new build it would be crazy to not go to win7 64 upgrade sonr to 8.5 and wup the Waves.

on the other hand yes you can buy a cheap i3/5 dual core subsystem and still use XP with sonar and not upgrade the waves.
still a good more power than you have now

So, I can buy one of your computers loaded with 8.5 for pert' near $2000.00.  (I'm guessing since I couldn't get your web site to work).  Or, I can slap in a Mob with 2 gb ram, a hard drive and maybe a power supply for way less than $500.00 and run my current software.  Do you see where I'm coming from here?

To re-phrase my question:  Will an i7 machine run my current software any better/faster than a WAY cheaper machine?

    Thanks again

LOL sounds like the cold fusion server was acting up again.
we have them from $1000 on up.

"Will an i7 machine run my current software any better/faster than a WAY cheaper machine? "

yes but at the same time it could be overkill for your needs.

    in respect to power

    i3-i5 dual core
    i5-i7 P55 chipset (1156)
    i7 X58 chipset (1366) better memory bandwidth
Dual i7 Xeon even better memory

so its very possible to buy a system thats more powerful than you would ever use (especially the Xeon)

and if  you dont upgrade sonar, waves and use win7 you would also not use the system full potential.
    as i said
