Do Session Drummer Expansions ever go on sale?
This years budget for the studio is almost gone, and I would like to add some new kits, the problem is the ones I would like to have total $170. Now I know this sounds like boo-hooing, but it really is not. $170 is a lot of money in this day & age, and if I have to settle on just a couple, I guess that would be fine. But I would really like to grab all 5 and have them available. So, do they ever go on sale, or have bundled prices besides the Expansion Packs by DSF or Rock Legends Bundle? Thanks!

yes they do,though ive rarely seen them all on sale at the same time. but they will have buy 2 get 1 free. sometimes a 20% off any purchase over 100.00. i couldnt agree with you more about these kits,id love to get my hands on all of them. in the meantime you can start by building a few custom kits. the content that comes with x1/x2 has a slew of one shots. simply open the session drummer interface and drag them right into their respective drums and drop them right in. whala ! new kits. ive made over 30. you can also mix and match kits by right clicking on a kit piece and then scrolling down untill you see the SFz files, choose those.

I have been creating kits from the samples, and learning to mix + match between kits....SD2-3 makes that SO easy. I have all the Smart Loops kits (the newest one is awesome for heaver rock stuff!) and mixing it up with them is a blast. I am just digging the tones of some of the expansion kits, mainly all but the DSF kits (sorry DSF!) Thanks for the info, and I will keep an eye out for the sales, a few at something off is better than nothing!

creating kits for SD2 or 3 is a headache.... of their making cakewalk scored an own goal by doing that.. make it so I can use *ONE* sfz file also... to do ALL the pads and I would have made some, not d!ck around making a load of files for sfz.. it confuses the issue.. and don't say it can't be done.. I know you lot can fix that.. to say otherwise is utter tosh..

Digital Sound Factory often have sales (usually around 30% off) on their products - https://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/cakewalk_session_drummer_3 so its worth checking there from time to time or getting on the mail list. Its also worth looking at Platinum Samples site to see if there are any beter deals buying their SD3 kits direct.

@smurf i think fog's comments were aimed at cakewalk and the absolutely silly system of making people write text files to do something as simple as make multi-sample drumkits

well , they'd have a lot more kits by other makers / people IF they hadn't made it so complex (for no reason).. in Database design , it's called over normalisation (if memory serves) and they broke it down too far "part" wise. it's simply, far to over engineered when there is / was no need to.

Fog, if I understand you correctly and if my memory serves you can actually use one and the same sfz file on all the pads. I'm pretty sure I've moved whole sfz drumsets by dragging and dropping the common sfz-file on the pads. They're "smart enough" to know what part is "theirs" as they're "hardwired" to specific midi keys. Then you just save it as a kit. It's not as easy as it could have been, but a lot better than separate sfz's.
