Jess, nice set up bro. you have the Mackie monitor control ?
something ive been looking in to. I use a TC Electronics Level pilot.
I just need more options.
will post a pic in a few of my dog house.

Chukebaby,

I love this Mackie Big Knob. I have three sets of monitors and it allows me to reference my mix using all three.  Some monitors are bass heavy and some carry Mids well.  I use as set of cheap cheap monitors from Dell computer system as a fourth set for the ugliest possible audio sound to see if the mix will sound halfway decent on those as well.  many Inputs/Outputs on the Big Knob are available.

Peace,

Here is my "new" room / setup.

Zargg,

Is that a Tascam FW- 1082 working with Sonar Platinum?  If so, how in the world.....  I though Tascam stop providing drivers for those.  WOW, I always wanted one of those before the MCU was available to me.

This is a laptop setup in my bedroom at home
I especially like having the 2nd monitor ON TOP of my my laptop making me "look up" at the monitor...good for posture as we "Blinding Gaze" at our screens for hours on end...producing in SONAR...:

and yes, sometimes I play SPACE INVADERS when composing to ease "Writers Block"
TRY IT!(Music by me PRODUCED with SONAR PRODUCER):

thanks for the info man. great ideas with the multiple speaker set ups.
I have 2 sets I use to switch around and get a feel for the mixes but im limited to a patchbay (I have 2 of them)
one is a Tascam Balanced bay PB-32B so patching is pretty low noise, strong signals but I much prefer the Mackie Big knob. amazing amount of inputs and switches, and who doesn't love a Big Knob !!
Im looking for a used one at GC for about 189.00. I see them every so often. will grab one soon.

you think so ? ive heard mixed reviews, some say they do, some say they don't.
ive heard no color at all. theres no mic pres in them (except for the talk back function), they are basically just a porting system to
I mean even if it did.. how much color we talking about ? enough to effect your judgment in a mix?
I don't think so, ive tried them, played with one at my guitar players studio.

I've been looking in to buying a good monitor controller, Behringer has one for about 100 bucks but the reviews are horrendous. 50% of the time the units don't work properly. but the big knob does what it should.

Ham N Egz,

I've heard this before in another forum, but a Mackie representative came into the forum and posted that there was no coloring of the sound whatsoever.  He said that many folks don't think about the Audio Devices in which they have and because of the amps and pre-amps thar are in the routing, the color may be coming from their own devices.

As Chuck said, if coloring is being done, how much coloring is actually being done that it will effect the outcome of you mix?

Still, I'm going to use it because it serves my purpose.

That's exactly my theory Jesse.
for the price you cant beat it. I know Presonus makes a pretty good one as well but I like the features of the Big knob.
I like the fact it has a lot of options. I use a leveling pilot now / its a passive control and I do like it, I just don't have the options to switch like you do unless I patch it using 2 balanced cabled. (for Left/right)
would much rather having to just use a switch.
though I have thought this one looked pretty good as well.

As Chuck said, if coloring is being done, how much coloring is actually being done that it will effect the outcome of you mix?

I wouldn't worry about potential colouring too much. the benefits of having a 2nd pair of speakers attached and to be able to switch between them by far outweighs that.

also, you should be monitoring your reference material through the same monitor controller => speaker signal chain and any potential colouring will become irrelevant.

Nice !!!

How is the raven working with sonar ? Did they updated their own soft to work with sonar or you just using like a touch screen ?

And the twin usb , is it powerfull ? Did ya already maxed it out via usb ?

Thks for sharing

Thanks! I am much happier with it than I was with either keys/mouse or AlphaTrack. With the Control Bar at the bottom, and the transport, screensets, markers, and custom modules by my right hand I can move more easily than ever. I don't move from it much. There is still no software. I guess that's a ways away - but I am quite happy as is. If only I could draw automation and select tracks with touch.... Should by chance Slate bypass support for Sonar, I will try out SOP 3. It is fully supported with Windows and Batch Command software. I haven't used my software code yet, so it's an option. I don't want to learn a new DAW. No, no, no, no, no. But I see the tremendous capability of this beast - and I will use it one way or another.

As far as my 'floating' Twin USB is concerned - I LOVE IT. I also have a Duo in the box. I have yet to do a project I had to freeze. I also use some other really good plugs (Slate ,Fabfilter ProQ2, etc) that keep me from UAD overload - that and disabling loadlock in the software. Current project has 41 plugs including a Ampeg Pro3, Massive Passive, and Fatso. DSP at 70%. Then, there's the Console app I like a lot during tracking AND mixing. I have a small Jam2 speaker (I use to check mono/stereo to mono like from a phone) I can switch back and forth to as well as control volume w/o leaving the screen. With the trim adjustment I have for both sets - without leaving the touchscreen. HTH
