Do any of you fellers or gals do "lead sheets"??
Maybe the wrong forum to even ask in. I've got a client who wants a couple things I did for him "scored out" for another event where they're going to bring in a live band a singers to perform. I went and looked at the "staff view"...it gave me the jitters. I could do a number chart or even a number chart with a melody head...but he needs the basic rhythm parts and vocal parts scored out. PM me if you do that sort of thing will ya??

I could help, but I'm not sure about your question. Does it have to do with "Transcription"? (Maybe that's the wrong term) - err, picking the song apart.
Often times, I'll load a Bass line via audio file, but obviously it's a task trying to manipulate it's "notes." Therefore, I'll construct a midi track to mimic it. then use that as a reference point to properly edit the audio file I "self-extracted" (re-constructed) it from.
I also have "scored" tracks, so I know where you are coming from.

Nah...I could print out each individual track if needed. What I think they want is the basic rhythm section broken out and the melody head along with the lyrics.

I do lead sheets all the time. Do you mean just the melody with the words and the chords in the right places? I use Finale for it, after I get the melody correct in Sonar.

^ Janet is correct. I do know what lead sheets are, but the "having it scored" threw me off.

No...sorry...not just a lead sheet. Hell I could do that I guess...only I'm too blamed lazy. I'd just write a Nashville number chart or chord chart with the melody on a staff and the lyrics. What this feller wants is all the basic rhythm parts (piano, bass drums, etc...) and the lead and background vox all scored out so a band a different group of vocalists can sight read it I guess. Heck, why they can't just listen to it an scribble down a quick number chart and just play the thing is beyond me. But there ya go. I'll be glad to send ya the tracks and you can give me an estimate as to what you'd charge and I'll pass it along.

So, they so want this scored? As I said though, he may not want to because even if he does have "an ear for music" (not saying he doesn't) it is a hassle to do. Heck, I'm listening to Blossoms (a track I did) and it'd probably take ages for me to score it. However, I haven't determined what will be physically played yet, but it'd still be a hassle even if I did since the "Live" portion will contain quite a few instruments. Extraction programs help, but aren't that very accurate. I won't charge anything to help - I'm not that "serious" yet! lol

post 4 looks like the way to go.
some musicians simply can not play without sheet music so that might explain the need for scoring the parts.
