Do any of you have your computer set for sleep mode

Is it a good thing to have your computer go into sleep after about 15 to 20 minutes if you have not made any key strokes in that time or is better that it not go to sleep when sonar is the program on the screen.

If you're working on audio I'd turn off any and all power management... it can effect performance, and some USB/Fw sound cards have issues coming back from 'sleep'. I don't know what going to 'sleep' will do if you're actually recording at the time...

Well scince I switched my power option on my Vista Ultimate to high performance it goes to sleep after 20 minutes and my souncard buzzes when it happens. PCaudiolabs has its own setting and computer does not sleep but latency is not as good as when set to high performance. What do you think I should do?

agincourtdb is right! I like sleep mode for when I am surfing the net but it doesn't work well in the studio. I had it on once and when I woke up my computer from sleeping my audio interface didn't act right until I restarted my computer.

Set to high performance and then go into the advanced options and edit what 'High Performance' means... turn monitor and HDs to 'always on'. After that, use High Performance whenever you're working on audio. Just make sure you keep it plugged in. :-)

It's a matter of personal taste.

IMHO it is not a good thing to have your comp go into sleep mode when working with Sonar.

None of my pc's ever go into sleep mode.

They simply get switched off when I've finished with them for the night.

Even a couple of non-DAW m/c's tend to act a bit strangely after 'waking up'

    Bit like me.

I have it enabled on mine, but I've set the advanced options so that if it's not sleeping it's always at full power for the CPU, USB etc. I have it set to sleep after about an hour or so of no activity and there have been no ill effects from it. I figure if I have't done a keystroke or mouse move in an hour, I'm obviously not using it, and I'd rather save the energy than worry about the 2 or 3 minutes it takes if I need to restart should the need arise.

I use sleep mode all the time because sometimes I'm called away from my DAW and I don't get back for several hours. The machine will sleep with Sonar open to a project. Usually when I get back I bring it back from sleep mode and it works fine. Periodically my Edirol FA-66 will lose its firewire connection so I have to exit Sonar and restart my sound card. The restart is required after 3-5 days of the machine going to sleep and being brought back.

You should have the power options to Always On. Its best for a DAW.

    'Always on' is very important.

It should be 'on' as in many PCs audio will skip if it's not.

You can also lose your drivers and midi outs also if it goes into sleep mode
