Do i need a soundcard to use my mic that uses a usb? Where can i get one?

i keep hearing about using a soundcard to use your microphone and such. I have a Samson Go-Mic. I thought that your suppose to use it for audio track and not midi. But turns out i can't record because the program won't recognize my mic and its a mic that connects to the computer with a usb cord. But what's a soundcard? And where do i get one?

Your computer most likely has a built-in sound card.  Can you play music and listen to it on speakers or through a headphone on your computer?  If so, then you have a built-in sound card.  It will work well enough for you to learn the fundamentals of recording, mixing, and mastering (along with using MIDI and soft-synths to create drum tracks and backing instruments).

Once you have figured out a little more about what you are doing and how to make things work, you will probably find that you will want a higher performance better quality sound card.  You will get lots of advice on how to choose one here.  I recommend learning the fundamentals with what you have first though.

A USB mic is not the best way to record music in MC.

You should get a USB based INTERFACE and use a decent dynamic or condensor mic, not a USB mic.

The USB wants to be the second soundcard and that just causes problems.

    +1

and I would also add that you have 3 threads all pretty much the same questions regarding getting your GO mic to work.  I would advise that you not make us go to 3 different threads for the same problem.  please keep the same problem in one thread so we can help without having to read all 3 threads before we figure out what you have done and haven't done.
