Do project templates save effects in tracks?

From what I can gather from the reference manual and all, they don't, but I thought I'd ask here to be sure.

For instance, if I apply PX-64 to a drum kit I've got set up, and get it all adjusted how I like, will all of that be saved when I make a template of the project?

I know I can save presets within PX-64 for all the kit pieces, but I was just wondering if I could forgo having to reapply the effect to all the drum tracks each time I start a new project.

Thanks!

Yes. Parameters, fx's, busses will all be saved & contained in the template project. (but not any audio-midi data in the tracks themselves)

One thing to remember is that X1 is missing the import filter that was available in 8.5.

Meaning? (Sorry, I didn't get that familiar with 8.5 before X1)

You could select what would be imported from the template.
Choices like existing buses, fx, sends, synths also track folders, colors etc...

It was very useful so you could leave out or include certain things you already had in the project or in the template. It also made creating new track or project templates less confusing too.

Hope they put it back in future versions.

So as it is now, when you start up a new project with the template you've saved, it just throws in everything in that template, without giving you the choice of options?

I've just gone back to 8.5.3 and 8.3.1 and couldn't find what you suggest about track templates in those versions.
I don't remember there being a track template insert or export filter.
There is a filter when you want to insert multiple tracks; not templates
there is also a filter when you want to bounce to tracks where you can select what feature of the track you want to include or exclude in the bounce and whether its fast or live, with or without fx etc.

You're confusing Project and track templates

Correct, project templates are not track templates although when inserted track templates are imported as projects (a bit confusing)

It's an import, not insert filter.

So what's a project template then?...

.cwt = When you open Sonar & select 'create new project from template'. These are complete project templates.

.cwx= track templates projects, made by exporting tracks already in a project. You can import these back into projects.

For instance I export my drums to a track template (using 2 folders, one with midi tracks, the other with audio tracks- sn,k,hh etc.) It also includes a reverb buss & mix buss with comp/ eq)
I can now import that entire 'drum track template ' back into any opened project.

So let's say you have an old project & you'd like to either add drums or replace existing ones. You would select 'insert track folder' from the menu, choose the desired 'track template' & it's completely imported into the project that's already open. That includes the sends, busses..

Ok, but if all I'd be doing is starting up new projects, and wanted all the same setups, tracks, busses, pre-placed effects, etc., then a project template is fine for me?...

(I know it should all be pretty common sense, but I'm just a little mixed up at the moment.)

You don't import templates of any sort. they are available from either the new project dialog when you start a new project or from the insert menu and track template dialog .

You do however export tracks to create track templates (.cwx). This can include single or multiple tracks with or withoout folders, FX, Presets, Instruments and routing to busses. You can create new project templates simply by saving an open project file with or without data in it, as a cakewalk template (.cwt) instead of a cakewalk project (.cwp)

My mistake, I meant 'insert track templates'  not import.
