Do you ever put your computer to sleep mode?

Do you guys usually put your computer into sleep mode? If not, how about hibernation mode? Do you just always shut off or leave it on?
If you do use sleep mode, do you ever get problems with your audio driver? Like audio drivers cutting out, not working correctly after resuming computer, etc?

No sleep mode. Never. No hibernation mode. Never. I power up the dedicated DAW when I need it. Shut it off when I'm done for the day.

I never allow sleep or hibernation mode on my DAW.  I always turn all power saving features OFF.  I turn the power off of my computer when I'm done.

I'm just the opposite - I never turn my PC itself off (unless I'm going away for vacation).  I turn on my monitor and my audio interface when not in use, but my PC remains on at all times.  I have an APC 1500 Back-UPS Pro that will do an unattended shutdown if I loose power for a longer period of time, so it will be safe if I loose power for longer than a small outage.  I also have sleep/hibernation disabled.

I know, not very green of me, but it's what I do.

My experience is power management and daw usage are not a good match. Jim Roseberry has some comments in this forum somewhere that goes deeper as to the why...

I like the idea of a fresh start on my pc after a day's use. And I don't want to have to worry about a sleep mode waiting to interfere with a session. Plus, I want my PC to operate at full strength...

Same as most. Power up at start work, power down at cease work. Only exception is Monday nights when my backups are done.

I was going to mention something similar.  My computer puts me into sleep mode sometimes.

I almost always put my PC into sleep mode at night and sometimes during the day too.  I have a USB connected Midisport 4x4 midi interface.  I'm using the on-board sound card (got to do something about that.....).

Anyway, sleep mode does not seem to be a problem.

I usually go into sleep mode before my computer does:0).>

I disabled all of the power saver options long ago. A recording computer has a tough time going green. I also would not by a "green" hard drive for the same reason.

I have a sofa in my home studio for those cases when a little nap would do both of us some good (what I'm working on and my body), it's my version of Sleep mode.  I'm very green in that way - a  power nap does a body good.

I pretty much prevent my computer from doing anything automatically.

Hibernation/sleep modes included, and I'm not impressed with background tasks starting up when I'm in the middle of working.

Having said that I allow it to turn off the monitor after 20 minutes if I'm away from it.

The computer is on all the time mostly though unless I'm out as I often keep odd hours and like to have it ready to roll.

This is a major reason why mine is on all the time as well - I'm prone to insomnia and sometimes I'm at my most creative when the rest of my household is sleeping so the ability to just head to the home studio and lay something down works well for me.

I have a UPS. It makes my speakers hum. I don't use it.

Plugged them on different lines, but it still hums. Ground lift (audio interface) also failed. Now I just pray for clean power :)

Sleep used to be bad for DAWs but for the last few years I've had no problems. Once MOTU started allowing S3 with their PCI-424 I've been using it. As a matter of fact, I have Speedstep and everything enabled in the BIOS, and as long as I use my custom power profile with the CPU at 100% I can run 64 sample buffer sizes all day long! R

    No sleep
    No hibernate
    UPS
    On at start of day
    Off at end of day

Seem to remember a hard reset clears the memory something that can get corrupted in sleep or hibernate mode. FireWire also does better with a clean start than coming out of sleep or hibernate mode

I use sleep mode often, but it is always manually initiated and only after closing all applications. My automated power settings turn monitors off after 30 minutes and that's it. The audio interface is usually left on continuously. I only shut everything down completely prior to going out of town.

If you have issues with devices not coming back after sleep mode, it's probably because you have enabled powering down of USB ports. Exempt these from power management via Device Manager.

It's a good idea to reboot at least once a week to recover leaked memory, which Windows itself is prone to.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
