Do you still consider Pluto a planet. Mooch doesn't care anymore .. it's a planet to him

My whole life I was taught Pluto was the smallest and the ninth planet

Boy I tell you ... I remember my 5th grade teacher (Mr Badke)  taking the class out side - and giving nine students nine planet names and lined them up  - and used a ratio with the students of the actual distance of the planets to show how far they were from one another compared to the sun

Pluto was a planet in those days.  We even had a quiz on it ..... back in 1980. (I passed it by the way)

Then they said it was not a planet - its a dwarf or something?  big asteroid or something ?I don't remember

Now they might label it as a planet again I heard?

the hell!!!!!!!!!!

I don't even care any more -

I still call it a planet cuz of Mr. Badke my 5th grade teacher

You all call it what you want !!!

I hoped I proved my point!

Pluto is a cartoon dog character.

I had my doubts even back then. I mean, what's the deal with a dog who cannot speak but his owner - who is a frickin' mouse with a much smaller brain - can? Meanwhile, down the road lives Goofy, also ostensibly a dog, but who can speak, albeit bapu-like. Jeez, in that world even crows could sing 4-part harmony. So was Pluto really a dog at all, or something else? Only Walt knew, and he took the truth with him to the grave.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I don't know.  I was pretty excited to hear that Pluto was a dwarf planet.  Personally, I would think they'd get cold there, but I guess they dress warm.  I think they're probably responsible for a lot of those asteroids out there.  I mean, they do love to dig those mines.  It seems like a pretty good place to find Am, as well.  You know, because they like to whistle while they work?

If it becomes just another planet again, what happens to the dwarves?  We're not going to just overlook them, are we?  Shirley, we're not expecting the elves to take them in?  You know that won't end well.  Besides, if they don't get a place of their own, you know they're just going to come back down here.  They'll dig and dig until they accidentally break into the cavern containing the vile beast that controls Donald Trump's hair.

I don't think we want that to happen again.

When it was politically correct to call Uranus, “your-un-us”, I proudly declared it Your-Anus … and now Your-Anus is back in vogue.  I will continue to call Pluto a planet in spite of what the numb-nuts at the International Astronomical Union … or was it the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (I always get the 2 confused) say.

While we are on the topic of Uranus, what circles Uranus hunting for Klingons?

Pluto and Charon, Mooch and Bapu.  Some combinations really don't need to be labeled (correctly or otherwise).

As for the actual OP, I'm just as liable to believe that both Pluto and Charon (as well as many of the moons around the larger planets) were originally part of the "missing" planet that should be between Mars and Jupiter according to the normal distribution algorithms.  This is exactly where the asteroid belt is (not a coincidence in my opinion).  It's not hard to imagine that there was a planet there that was hit by something like a large comet and destroyed.  Other evidence is the fact that all of the planets have more craters on one face instead of all around (which is what you'd expect to see if planet debris was spread out instead of normal impacts from wayward asteroids or smaller comets).  It could also explain the tilted orbits of planets as well - if left to form under normal circumstances, you would think that a planet's axis would be perpendicular to a line from the sun.  This sudden of a change in the Earth's axis might even be why we hear really old tales that the entire Earth was always at a moderate temperature while now we have seasons (which I prefer anyway) and also why entire forests can be found intact under two miles of ice in the Antartic (with old maps showing exactly where rivers were - only confirmed by the Space Shuttle).  Maybe there really were prior civilizations that the woo woo crowd call Atlantis or Lemuria (aka Mu) - who knows.  In any case, it's a fun story to think about.
