Do you think X1e or X2 is currently baking?
Now that Benstat is onboard as a Baker, do you all think that he and the other bakers are baking up X1e or X2? or perhaps even both? And if X2 will be launched later this year, that's only 5 months away if it's Oct. and 7 months if it's Dec. And if you buy the Logickey keyboard for $129.99 plus whatever discount they may be running, it will be obsolete unless X2 uses the very same shortcuts. My wish is that they don't release X2 soon because a lot of users are starting to like X1. And if there are any remaining bugs, are there? I guess those should be addressed to before moving on to the next version.

I bought X1 hoping it would mature a bit before an all new release. I am really REALLY hoping they just keep focusing on X1 for a while. Like at least a few more years.

I would think Cake needs to bring out X2 soon for the money. They've made some off of expanded and modules etc., but if I had to put my own money up on a beat I would say X2 this fall, w/ expanded included and new modules. And the Rapture replacement - an LE module. I would think there would be a few other internal fixes and upgrades, hopefully lay back in some flexiblity that people still miss from 8.5. Nothing major as far as work flow, but certainly some tweaking. And make it compatible w/ Windows 8 and touchscreen. Cake is pretty hip to MS. That would be my guess.

Id say X2 has been in development for quite a while; I doub't they'd use the entire Cakewalk development team for patches. I'd hope for an improved matrix, possibly some kind of pattern bank for the step seqencer, some updates to some of the synths & effects (Beatscape, VVocal), maybe ARA support like studio one 2! Windows 8 support would also be rad.

Currently, Cakewalk seems to be in clearance sale mode of all the treasures marketed in the last year, so it follows they will need new stuff to market later this year. Hopefully the Prochannel Reverb module, Prochannel Delay module, full screen mode, v-vocal enhancements, staff view improvements, gapless audio engine, snap fix, customized screen colours, session drummer 4, console view bus folders, improved audio card profiling + latency adjustments, envelope automation repairs, cooler sample library, Dimension Pro 2 . . . . . . will all be a part of whatever they call it.

Keep in mind I could be shot for sharing this, but I think you should know... "Due to the huge amount of user feedback regarding the X1 UI, the team at Cakewalk has decided on a full re-design of the UI for X2 with the focus on simplification. We think you will find the new UI a refreshing change from Skylight." A sneak peak of the new UI is available here - please keep this under your hats. If the CW people find out I shared this screen-shot, I will be in real trouble.

Got to keep moving forward. I'd say X3 has just got past the naming stage. It's not easy to think of a working title after X2 but most agreed with X3, with one lone voice for X2.5. Now they've only got to work out the most convoluted way to upgrade the inevitable patch updates. The more confusing the better as it keeps the forum occupied, while they secretly make PC modules with names that don't roll off the tongue that easily.

I've been told that an update for X1exp D is in the works to address the issues with timecode plugins not bouncing, as well as others. X1 is not stable enough. That being said, I'm sure that X2 is baking in the oven next to that one. I hope they remember how to make all of their recipes work. :)

I thought the announcement had already reached everyone...? Due to the new breakthrough in virtual brain operations, the next version X-Won is now cloud based and works anywhere anytime a registered user thinks. Copy protection is no longer needed and the only bugs are bad thoughts after a bad night! ;-) I can barely move this morning but I'm expecting X-Won to let me finish today... For what I do Maschine and Sonar would be pretty much the same with a few exceptions. For midi based composition I do not need a lot. And yes I am using Balance as my audio interface but I do not relate that to any problems because A) Props has an awesome track record for stability and if something does come out screwed up they fix it in a month or so and B) Sonar is the only program I use on my system that does not like the card. Also my old audio interface I used before balance gives me a lot of the same problems minus the audio drops. For me the biggest problem is the rewire work arounds I have. Everything else is minimal and while I do enjoy Sonar I would be lying if I said it was perfect and I am concerned about all of the issues I always hear about it. I am all over the net on all kinds of forums and Sonar is the program I hear most problems about. Not just here but on a lot of different forums. Maschine also just looks really cool I might get it even if I stick to Sonar but I definitely want Sonar X1 to run as awesomely as possible for everyone on everything doing everything. I hear so many things on this forum about how it works for me and it must be your computer but Sonar is the only program I hear people saying that about and it concerns me a lot.

A note to add to this. I do not come here to bash Sonar. In fact I think its a great concept but I want them to tighten it up a bit for everyone. When something goes wrong with other programs its usually fixed and not blamed on the person or their computer when all they did was install the software. For some reason I find that to be a common thing on this forum and with Sonar entirely. I have all of the Cakewalk synths and they work beautifully never had an issue with any of them I have just been disappointed with Sonar X1. Its inches away from being the best DAW on the planet imo. The feature set is rich and Cakewalk are very forward thinking developers that's what I like about them but imo I would rather have a program with slower development and less features that work really well (which is probably why I like Reason so much) and you have very few issues which are entirely human error 90% of the time. People think they found bugs and its usually just a setting or two that they screwed up in Reason vs Sonar which is a totally different ball game. I frequent the Official Reason forums and when you go there u see maybe 2 or 3 at most bug threads at a time at most which may or may not be actual bugs and mostly things praising Reason vs here where I see a ton of frustration and troubleshooting. I would like to see Cakewalk take Sonar more into the stable for everyone making music software that just works right for everyone attitude. I don't know if Cakewalk does beta testing (I don't think they do since I have been using Cakewalk Daws of some sort for 7 years) but I think it would be a great idea so that way a lot of the issues that people see with the software couple be eliminated before the official release and it would in turn likely eliminate a ton of issues people have with the sofware

So if they do roll out X2 and ditch X1 how much do you guys figure they'd charge an X1 Production Suite user to upgrade? Would all the bells whistle I bought get upgraded too or would I have to do that separately? How long would they support X1 (or I guess an easier question to answer is are they still supporting 8.5 and if so for how long)? This is the type of stuff that would upset me. I don't like having to pay for the same thing over and over again just so it works properly and is supported.

Traditionally support for an old version stops when the new one is released. i.e. 8.5 support stopped on the release of X1. Releases used to be yearly but X1 has broken that cycle so it's all guesswork. I said a while ago perhaps X1 will continue as e, f, g etc although some (one?) will be paid upgrades rather than updates. X2 I think will be a while off if ever. ***That's all guesswork I could be way off of course.......

I think they should just do pro channel and feature updates rather than making new versions honestly. Do it like Kontakt. You pay for Kontakt but where they really make their money is in the expansions for it. Sure you can grab komplete but a lot of people want the new stuff the day its released and they will give their money to NI knowing that. I think this concept would work great for Sonar as they continue to get X1 perfected. Then they can sit on X1 until they have to go to a new version.

As far as I am concerned, They will do what any major corporation would do, and do what's best for them to make some money. Remember, Roland owns Cakewalk, so ultimately Roland will call the shots. If they want it rolled out for this year, X2 will be pushed. Just keep your mouse on the news tab! If x2 were to roll out, I believe those who were SONAR 8 Producer owners were able to upgrade for $99? I figure this will be the same with SONAR x2. Or... just be patient. I bought SONAR x1 Studio for $149. I then waited till the most recent sale price and upgraded to Producer for $99... sooo. $248. I have no just got Expanded which I received the bundle for $139.00; So $387.00. For... well Everything! Now... All I need is Zeta. which will put me still under $450.00 for...up, That's pretty much everything. Fiend 4 Records & Studios <---- Tax write offs and I saved money!
