Do you use another program to prepare your audio for distribution?

I am looking into using another program to prepare tracks for either online or CD. What do you recommend? Or can I use Sonar for this and do a decent job?

For burning your own master Redbook cd containing crossfades etc. check out Sony's CD Architect, it simply works.
If you're doing a non-cd & uploading only the dithered 16b.wav files to an online distribution service then using only Sonar is fine.

    +1 for Sony CD Architect

Same here, plus I use Soundforge when required ( MP3 conversion for instance)

    Vegas for Video's

I do worry a little though what Sony are going to do with these excellent programs - no real updates for instance on Architect for a long time now - anyone have any ideas if they are planning upgrades etc?

I use Nero and do not have any problems.  Nero allows me to enter the ISRC numbers,  Also, song titles, album title and artist, etc and it will display on any audio CD player with the display capabilities.  I use ink-jet printable CD-R's (Taiyo Yuden) and burn at 8X.

As I haven't taken the time to learn how to do it in Sonar, I use Goldwave as the final audio editing (to add 2 seconds of silence to the start of each song, etc) before burning.

I see a lot of individual burned audio CD's that skip, won't play, etc and that is because of burning at high speeds, which older Audio CD players have problems with.  I even see that on many commercially burned audio CD's.  I also see a lot of burned CD's that will only show Track Number and nothing else because they were not burned correctly.  Paper labels are another "no no".

On our latest material we sent our stuff out for mastering rather than doing it ourselves.  I'm actually glad we did that.  I don't have the acoustics to do the types of mastering that the final product sounds like.  When they finished they created a redbook master I could deliver to for CD duplication.

Don't use SONAR for burning CDs. Any generic CD-burning program such as Nero will work fine for that part.

CD-Architect is, sad to say, an excellent solution. I say "sad" because Sony is a very evil corporation and I'd prefer never to give them another dime. That would be easier if CDA sucked, but unfortunately it's quite good.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
