As far as the Martian Invasion thing is concerned, it helps to provide a speculative outlet for the masses. It also helps to make them feel safe today. "We survived an alien invasion during a time when our most advanced technology was a spoon!" The way most people think that we still live on Earth really cracks me up.

A local AM station replayed that broadcast yesterday. It sounded dated of course but it is easy to see why it caused such a stir.. it really sounded like a real news report with officials and everything. What a great hoax. I hope no one get hurt in the panic.

I saw a documentary about the broadcast. Some people that missed the beginning of the broadcast thought Germany was invading. A real fear in that era.
