Does Sonar have audio time limit?
I have 6 audio tracks about 5 min each. I want to record them to cassette with a 30 sec space between each one. So I placed them all in tandem 30 sec apart on one track and hit play to record them all at once. When Sonar got to position 585:01:000, or the 18 minute mark, the audio went silent. I tried bouncing the last clip with the one before it. When I did there was no audio where the last clip used to be, just that center line of silence. So does Sonar quit producing audio after 18 minutes? Or what happened? Steve

I seem to recall there being a limit but it's like 4 hours or something. I could be completely mistaken on that but it certainly should not cut out after 18 minutes.

Oh... was it a fast bounce? If so maybe try a real time bounce? Just guessing. Cheers.

Steve Yeah, out of sheer "unknowingness",I too would like to know the answer to this, especially if I end up recording my cover version of "Close To The Edge" by "Yes". Seriously though,Iv'e never seen this "max project length" thing, discussed anywhere?....Bakers? Bob

A full CD runs longer than 18 minutes and SONAR can handle that. It is limited by your machines resources, so the actual limit depends on your PC.

sonar craps out after a while. when i was setting up a live show about a year ago i was going to work with a 45 min long backing track in an audio lane. i think it's a buffer flushing thing. try bypassing all effects (bypass button on the control bar) and increase your driver's buffers to the maximum. also, in "preferences/audio/configuration file" set the dropoutmsec to 750 or so, threadschedulingmodel to 2 and minimizedriverstatechanges = 3. bounce each audio clip down first. running 32 bit might be a hamper to that as well. what's your total file length?? lemme know if that helps. as i understand it you're playing the audio back with sonar and the outputs are plugged into a tape machine that you're recording on right?? there are audio file joiner programs on the net you can use to parse stuff into a long .wav file and then just play that back using windows media player or something if sonar keeps crapping out on you.

i thought that was it on my machine for a while as well, simpleman, but had all startup programs/av/etc. disabled and same thing happened. if you want to test it on your machine - just take one of the loop files, stretch it out 45min and then bounce it down to audio, go to the start of the project and hit play and see how long your machine makes it. i'd like to know so i could compare preference settings with you.

hey, soens, why don't you just export the project as audio then play it back with wmp or itunes or something??

I moved the set of audio clips to track 2 and it works fine there. It's only on track 1 where it fails to play after 18 minutes. So it has nothing to do with my system. It's set up for performance use and has more than enough resources. I created a new project and copied the clips to it and had the same trouble so there's something screwy with track 1 in X2, it seems. Normally I kept each clip on it's own track and record them to tape individually. Putting them all on one track was meant to speed up the recording process. I'm not going to try exporting the project or mixing it down to see if that works because I have no need for that in this case. Next time I'll just put them all on track 2 and file a bug report, I guess. Thanks for the ideas, Steve

I believe there is a 2 GB limit for the file size for normal wave files. However, Sonar also supports Wav64, which has a much higher limit, and it automatically switches to Wav64 once the 2 GB limit for Wav has been reached. So theoretically the time limit from Sonar is more likely to be determined by your disk size than anything else. If you are getting a stop at an earlier point in time a setting or device driver on your computer is causing the issues as others have mentioned. Peace, Tunes

Well, I took some time to check this out on my DAW. WIN 7 64 and Sonar X2. Even though I have one project that goes for 12 plus minutes made up of forty midi and 20 audio tracks, I wanted to test Sonar's time limit. I made a new project with just 1 audio track; enable record and left it to record for 48 minutes. Never timed out. The file was 1.02 gigs when done. Based on your last analysis I might now think you have a corrupt Template. As stated, my test was done on Track one.

So I guess I can surmise from all 15 responses that the answer to my question is NO! I suspected a bug when it happened and I'm still bugged by it, so BUG it is! A very strange bug, but still a bug, no less. A bug by any other name might be a feature but I certainly didn't request it. We need a bug smiley for posts like this. Would that require a bug request? .

I'd call support because that's pretty annoying and IMO unacceptable for a pro audio platform. What about people who do film work or want to work with live sets? I'm sure there is a solution out there. Cheers.

Dat be what he say, fo-sure. I will attempt a fresh new project and see what happens. This one was hijacked from a previous project and resaved which may be part of the problem.

swamptooth @jersey - do you have all 100min in one project?? Sorry - did you mean me? If so, then yes in as much as I import my final(?) mixdowns into an album project, each song on its own track and spaced out on the timeline where I can set appropriate gaps/seques/fades etc.

The only thing that limits you is your PC and what it can handle. There are No Limits to these things. It just depends on what your pc can handle CJ

http://www.cakewalk.com/D...;Req=Recording.08.html We rev'ed SONAR's engine several years ago to allow for 64 bit time formats. You can theoretically record for years with Wave 64 :) SONAR's timeline has some limits due to the needs of musical time, but it goes into several days IIRC.
