Does This Sax Part Sound Believable?

Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could give this a listen and let me know if the sax solo I did sounds good. I'm too close to the song to really be objective. I can't play sax and funds are limited so I thought I'd try using Dimension Pro to see if I could come up with something that could work.

As always, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time and here's the link.

BTW - The sax solo comes in around 2:53

To me the sax doesn't work very well. Mostly because the whole of the sound scape is electronic and using an acoustic instrument in that context I think only works if it's very organic. There are very few sax samples that can pull that off. I think you're part is fine but would sound better using a different voice. I have Yellow Tools " Candy "which is is considered a pretty good Sax instrument and I don't think it would work very well either. Just my opinion of course. Nice production techniques you're using there. Very enjoyable song for sure.

I think it's the wrong sound (the sax). Unless it was a real sax maybe. Point is, it sounds like a computer synth line so, make it one. I could hear a softish sine wave patch instead. Really love the groove and tune though Lateef. Real nice.

The song starts good and sounds well produced.  I'm not a fan of auto tune.... but I can deal with that.
The first 3 minutes are boring. nothing is exciting in the music. it sounds the same the whole way.

now the sax part is coming it..... it sounds midi and dry....uninspiring...

In the words of the famous RJ.......

Yeah... NO dog... that didn't work.... it was bad..... Randy Jackson

It sounded electronic and midi.... the tune was sampled I'm sure.... and auto tuned as well.

It really needs to have some soul and life in it.  While it was technically pretty good..... it was lacking the spark and the sax midi patch didn't help it.

sorry... you can do better than that.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I actually wanted the contrast of the electronic and the organic. All of the instruments I'm using are either guitars or a piano. I have one synth line that comes in for about 8 bars and gets muted. I may either have to use a synth lead for the solo or save up and pay real sax player to get the sound I want. Oh well, I tried. Anyway, thanks again. I'm glad there are people here willing to help.

I think this song has all the elements of a very good song, but the cake batter needs to be reworked.  If you have Dim Pro, there are some good sax samples there, but to program a believable sax part, you have to know how a sax player plays.  It helps to know the right time to take a breath, the right notes for legato, and the right notes to hold, etc.  The other thing about this version is that the drum part doesn't drive the song forward.  Although it's a love song, it can still give a bit more energy to the song.  All this needs is a dash of passion and a shot of fire.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Sounds like a lot of music I hear when going through the radio channels.  I will speak on the song because I can't hear what some of the others do.  I like it!  Your vocal fits nicely.  You don't seem to use autotune an excessive amount, or I don't hear it.  I hear it in spots like it's used as an effect and not for pitch.  Sax sounds kinda like a kazoo to me.  Sorry, buddy, everything is very well done.  Notnat can give some sax tips.  He features that famous player "Reed Samples" on his tunes sometimes.  :-)
