Does X1 need more cpu than 8.5?
I am looking for a general opinion from those that upgraded from Producer 8.5 to X1. I am finally going to make the switch (just in time for the next version to come out), as I am committing myself to get these projects done. I downloaded the trial version, and I feel like my computer is struggling more with X1. Nothing outrageous, but definitely noticeable. I don't have the specs for my computer right now, it is a quad core from a couple of years ago, with 4gb of ram. But when you made the switch, could you tell one way or another. I am wondering if I need to make an upgrade to the cpu as well. Thank you so much for any responses.

dgotwals1 I am looking for a general opinion from those that upgraded from Producer 8.5 to X1. I am finally going to make the switch (just in time for the next version to come out), as I am committing myself to get these projects done. Never a good idea to switch horses in the middle of the stream. X1 is very different than 8.5. I would put both 8.5 and X1 on my system at the same time until I felt comfortable with X1 if I were you. But be forewarned, there have been reports of X1 causing problems with the 8.5 install. Just make an image of your HDD before you install X1 and you'll be covered. I think it depends on which version of Quad Core you have. I have a Lynnfield i750 Quad Core (Intel) and X1 doesn't play nice with X1 on it. My personal belief is, yes, it does require more CPU to run than 8.5. But others will disagree and claim the old, "Oh yeah, I'm running X1 on a P4 with 800MB RAM" blah blah blah. After quite a long test period, in my experience I've found that X1 does require more CPU, more RAM, and a better video card than 8.5 to run stably. And another bit of advice, get a professionally built DAW to run it on if you are thinking of upgrading. It seems to be picky on what it will work stably on. I'm basing this off the fact that some people claim to have "zero" problems running X1, while others can barely get it to work at all. Good luck. Bub.

i've also found x1 uses more cpu than 8.5, as well as being more gpu-hungry

I wonder if that demo is a buggy version of X1, It sure didn't work for me. I even had drop outs!! I never get dropouts with 8.5. So I assumed it did require more power. Do they upgrade the demo from time to time? I tryed it back at the begining of the year.

If the demo isn't patched to at least X1c, I'd expect dropouts

pwal i've also found x1 uses more cpu than 8.5, as well as being more gpu-hungry If you'er using Areo the GPU usage should be the same for both.

Thank you everyone. Yes, I am using the trial and have A LOT of droupouts. It is probably a buggy first version. Also, I can't change the latency on the trial version. I just ordered the full version, so here I go.

FWIW, I'm running a quad core Q9300 @ 2.5Ghz, 8GB DDR2 RAM, and a 1GB ATI graphics card w/ Win7 64, so certainly far from cutting edge. But X1 runs pretty well for me and really doesn't "feel" any different from 8.5 from that perspective. Edit: I also meant to add... I'm running X1D Expanded.

See sig for my specs. X1 runs fine for me. I'm not a heavy soft-synth user though (I prefer hardware). X1 will even run (so long as the project is small) on my snail-like dual-core laptop which barely makes the minimum spec for X1. As for aero, if you're running Win7/Vista, then unless you've got a basic version that doesn't have aero, switch it on. 7/Vista take a big performance hit to the cpu with aero off as the cpu is not doing work that aero would delegate to the graphics card.
