Does anyone have any of the Arturia V stuff?
I've been contemplating getting a VSTi or two from the Arturia V collection for quite a few years now but never actually done so. Now I'm there again, and wondering if I should just pull the trigger on either the V Collection or V Collection Classics. I was just going to get say the Modular V, CS-80 and Jupiter synths, but for the extra hundred euros I can get the whole V collection. I'm just wondering... Does anyone here think that is not value for money? I'd probably never buy another VSTi, ever... I rarely incorporate sample based stuff into my work anyway, so I'm not always chasing the latest library, which can work out quite expensive. On the other hand, since buying u-he's Hive, I'm finding I can do a load of the old analog stuff with that... It's just that I am thinking that the V stuff would bring along a whole new world of inspiration for me... Decisions, decisions...

You can get the Analog Lab presets version included with a small keyboard controller for $99 list and see/hear what tickles your fancy. There's also a choice of larger keyboards or a Bitwig combo.

They all have demos so you could try whichever you like. Personally, I think the interfaces are just too small and fiddly. Arturia's support is also not known as the best either. The sound is pretty good, but I'd prefer to own Diva & Monark to get many of those classic sounds (but of course none of those sound like a Prophet VS). I too have contemplated getting some of them or the collection. I own Analog lab. After I play with it a bit, I always talk myself out of it.

tried a few of them... I'm really not sure... Hive has spoiled me. If I could be convinced that Arturia's TAE really makes a difference then I may be swayed... One thing that bugged me was the interfaces for each of the five that I tried... I get that they are supposed to be all different synths, but in terms of how you manipulate the controls, via mouse, should be the same across all VSTi, but they're not... And you can't type any parameters in at all. I do like that I can instantly dive into the Sem, Mini and Jupiter and know what I am going to get, but the CS-80 and the Modular are just a synth too far and I'm not sure if I can be bothered to learn how to fly them...

Arturia has the occasional 50% off sale. So keep your powder dry. The last one was Aug. 2014, if memory serves. So, you may not have long to wait.

as already mentioned they do sales.. depends on you , really does.. if you are of the time when you saw / used the real versions of the same synths. and you want emulations . the lab thing is included if you buy the v collection. the only grumble people had in the past were they were a bit heavy graphically. the u-he stuff is great also, but holds its price. I am a fan of d16's stuff also synth wise.. but things like z3ta and synleth1 are very usable , even though both are oldish

Yeah... I'll keep my eye out for any sale in the near future... Would be worth calling back into their site once a week I must admit that I hardly bother with Z3TA any more... Perhaps I should have another look at that. I've known about Sylenth for some time, but somehow managed to keep my GAS in check with that, for some reason. I notice that Sylenth 2, in 64 bit flavour, is now available (I'm only using 64 bit stuff at the moment) so I may download the 32 bit demo and go from there. Thanks for reminding me Fog

Well I like them Andy, I have had the Modular V more or less since release added couple more 2600, Prophet, CS 80, then V collection 3 and now V collection 4. Listen to my stuff and most is coming from Arturia synths or Korg's digital Legacy collection.

Recently there was a synth expo here in Melbourne for a whole day. The Arturia guy did a great demo of the V Collection 4. He produced a great track that had all of them playing at once. They have really captured the sound of all those things. Personally I feel the V Collection 4 is amazing value considering you are getting all of them. The Matrix 12 sounds killer and so does Jupiter 8 and also the Moog Modular is quite something as well. Everything sounded very fat indeed. I have owned more than half of what is in that collection. I remember the sounds well. Arturia were right on the money. Sonic Projects have also nailed the Oberheim sound too. Prophet VS reincarnated itself as the Korg Wavestation. I don't think it would ever had got finished. FYI the Wavestation plugin sounds way excellent as good as or even slightly ahead of the real thing. Hard to believe I know!

I was thinking the same thing. When I first heard their Moog modular, I thought I had found the be all end all of plugin synths. With U-he around, Arturia seems dated. Though it still has something a little special. I recently revisited the CS-80V. I can't comment whether or not it sounded like the real thing, but it did have it own Je ne sais quoi. Still, had some great sounds, just not as "hi-fi" as I would have liked.

Well, I meant it tongue and cheek. But Nori's Floyd presets are very accurate. indeed all the Synth Giants sounds are so recognisable it reduces their utility for anything but a cover. Of course you can always tweek!

Thanks for mentioning these. I have had Synthmaster for a while now and really love the sound of it. I decided to get Volumes 1 to 4 of the Nori Ubukata Historic Synth Giants. These are great presets and really show this synth off very well. I am very happy with that purchase and it was not much anyway. I love the fact that so many of them are recognisable. I think you can still use the sounds any way you want and that includes modern fresh ideas too. They are very tweakable though. You can really dig in and fine tune the patches well. I am partial to the Jupiter 8V or Matrix 12V from Arturia. Might jump when they become the special. I think Jupiter is on right now. Update I did invest in Jupiter 8V and I am glad I did. Here is some info about it for those who are interested: I have got the Sonic Projects Oberheim but only wanted one other vintage analog synth and I chose this one. It does sound good. Very good indeed. Tons of character. I think V Collection 4 would be a fantastic investment. The V Collection 4 demo I heard at the Synth Expo here used all 10 of them at once! It sounded pretty amazing. That was a real eye opener for me. They had the Arturia guy come out from where they are based and do a great demo of the whole V Collection 4. The computer ran all 10 synths easily. Did not break a sweat. He pulled a big track out though one synth at a time just building up layers until it sounded immense. Nothing to stop you installing say 4 Moog Modulars if you want and get them all setup up with different sounds and parts etc.. They have gone further than what the original Jupiter 8 did which is pretty cool. So in classic its all the same but you click to reveal an extra panel and it is pretty impressive. It has a sequencer with three out channels and can do many steps and be very cool indeed. All synced to your host of course when you need it to be. Many parameters can be changed on each step. Sequencer steps can be easily changed in a sweeping motion while all on the fly. It will generate random sequences for you and many of them are rather cool. Excellent springboard for ideas. They have added effects and they are nice sounding and simple to use and easy to understand. Interesting thing here is that two of the effects can be put in series at the end of the signal chain (Patch effects) as you would expect and they can add a lot of character to the sound. The two other effects processors can be patched in two places within the synth itself. (Voice effects) One spot is between oscillator and filter and the second is between filter and the VCA output gain amplifier that is controlled by the amplitude ADSR envelope of course. There are 5 voice effects block types and any of them can be selected in the effects positions. They are ideal for doing things in between the stages they are patched. The patch effects are different and well designed for those types of effects too. Nice. Like 9 effects blocks all up and can be used all over the place. They have this extra thing called the Sound map. This is bit interesting too. All the presets in your Jupiter are represented by things like (different looking) stars in a large night sky. It is a way of being able to navigate around in a massive library. Up to 4 sounds can be selected and put onto a special morphing type map. Then what is called the Compass Morphing Interface is placed over your map with 4 sounds on it. Your own patches or factory sounds can be the patches. Movement around the compass will change the sounds accordingly and when in between presets you are getting mixes of all the various patches. Movements can be recorded and edited of course. You can get multiple LFO's controlling the compass as well and they can be locked to your host tempo too. Now all that sort of takes it into another dimension. It still has all the other basic stuff such as a great arpeggiator and all the various modes of operation including unison modes where you can detune things nice and make big floor shaking deep notes, drones and textures.
