Does anyone here still use Project5 for any of its features?

Just would like to know if anyone who uses any previous versions of Sonar or X1 still use Project5 for any of its features.  The reason I ask is because I have a copy of Project5 laying around and want to know if its worth installing.  I used it briefly for a couple weeks a few years back and know that music software has advanced since but Project5 had a lot going for it from what I remember - so do any of you still use Project5 along with Sonar for your music creation?

P5 had a very unique workflow that was super-fast for sketching out ideas. It's PRV was stellar, it had great pattern-librarian features, and the "replace synth" command made trying out sounds very quick.

Many of these features were slurped into X1, some survived the conversion better than others. At this point I rarely go back to P5, as X1 has enough of the properties that I just roll with it.

If you own it, might as well install it. Sometimes just switching to a different program can spark ideas. If you gravitate to it, go ahead and use it. You can always port patterns and audio back into X1 if you desire.

I still use it only occasionally, especially since X1 came out (I joined the Sonar ranks with 8.0).  I keep it installed because so many of my old projects are still in that format and I've been porting over some of them into X1 to finish.

I view P5 now as more of a sketchpad for ideas as the method for inserting synths is streamlined and very user friendly allowing you to put down tracks quickly.  As the previous poster mentioned, the "replace synth" feature is a nice tool and something I miss.  Nevertheless, I'd recommend at least installing it and giving it a try.

If you already have X1, then you may only need to really install the core program and perhaps the P5 MIDI patterns.  The effects and synths that came with it are in X1 Producer for the most part if I remember correctly (except for Velocity and nPulse which are a drum sample player and drum synth respectively).

Same here... I have it installed so I can play around with it once in a while. It's good for working on new ideas sometimes. Also, it included some cool synths like the DS864 sampler and the Velocity drum machine. Of course, I can use those in SONAR too.

Yes, a couple of lost synths but mainly as a soft synth sequencer.  That is what it was built for and it still does the best job for it.  Rewire into SONAR for the best of both worlds.

That may be the first time I have ever heard anyone refer to DS864 as cool.

I've gotten some good sounds out of the DS sampler - kinda funky.

I too had Project 5 but haven't use it since Sonar 7, I belive or when ever cakewalk annouced that they were were not going to update it any further.  Once I started seeing Sonar with the features Project 5 once had, I tucked it away.

That was a quick and useful program to usenow that I think of it

    Peace !

No.  I never thought it sounded that good compared to what I had at the time and there were other options I preferred to work with.  It did have a few patches which might be nice to see in sfz format, but as a sampler I was not impressed.

PSYN was one of the cooler pieces of bundleware.  I also used the Groove Synth once or twice and even learned to appreciate nPulse.  Velocity was also good bundleware for the time.

Unfortunately I don't use any of its plugins  (which haven't already been included) in Sonar because of the 32/64 bit DXi issue.

I still think P5 and Kinetic are great tools for getting an idea down quickly.
