Does anyone know how Adrian Belew did this guitar solo

Anyone know what kind of thing is going on here? Around 2:40 onwards in the Talking Heads tune "Born Under Punches." Great solo.

There's some kind of synthification going on to the sound, but it's definitely Adrien Belew on guitar. He did some pretty wacky stuff.

I'm watching the whole concert now (might as well, that wasp in my bedroom is keeping me up anyway).

Belew almost sounds like he's got a Sustainiac going, but I don't think they were around in 1980!

I think it's a combination of the sort of stuff you find in Guitar Rig "Components" modifiers.

Things like the step sequencer and LFO etc.

Talk about having backups for everything!  Two percusionists, two guitars, two keyboardists, two bass players, etc.!

(Only one Adrian required though. )

I'm always blown away by the sound on Talking Heads records of that era, it just seems so focused, open and dynamic. And "Stop Making Sense" is I notice on Bob Katz's "Honor Roll of Dynamic Recordings."
