Does newegg.com sell ANYTHING that's not broken?

I placed my first order from them two weeks ago and I got 2 DOA hard drives. They RMA'ed without a hassle, but I got stuck with the return shipping fees. My second order came from them today and I've got a computer case with a giant chunk taken out of the face plate! Gee, I wonder who's gonna get stuck paying for return shipping?

Two strikes - they're out as far as I'm concerned. Can anybody recommend a computer place that doesn't sell broken junk?

cryo alas if you moved to England I'd say ebuyer.com , in all my years of dealing with them they don't mess about and even though I had to pay return postage , they refunded me that.

for me to see that from a US person is surprise, we always get told customer service over there is better.

I'm pretty sure tigerdirect.com gets a fair few mentions either here or elsewhere, I forget..

have you ever used them? can't vouch for them obviously.

Sounds like bad luck to me. I've bought three computers worth of stuff from NewEgg (including the computer I am typing this on now) and have never gotten a bad piece of hardware. It's not like they can open up and test everything before it gets sent out.

As I'm Googling "newegg.com broken, sucks, etc." I'm starting to think that it's more like good luck for you! Selling broken b-stock merchandise seems to be par for the course with those guys.

I'll have to look into them next - this time I'm going to Google "tigerdirect.com broken...blah blah blah..."

I have ordered thousands of dollars worth of computer parts from Newegg. I've always had a great experience with them. Sorry for the bad luck you've experienced. Newegg is usually the finest online computer shop around.

Seems your luck just hasn't been good... I'll echo the others: I've built 2 PCs in the past 3 years, with all components from Newegg. In addition, I've gotten quite a few "peripheral" storage-related items - haven't had to return a single one.

As far as the case damage, does it look like it may be shipping-related? Newegg enjoys a pretty good rep - I'm surprised they'd let something obviously deficient go out the door.

No, the box is in perfect shape. I can't even find the plastic parts that broke off anywhere inside the box or inside the case itself, so I assume it was packaged in that condition. That would seem to indicate that it's a QC problem with the case company, rather than newegg's fault, but some of the horror stories I've been reading today have me thinking that they're in the habit of buying b-stock and/or reboxed/returned items from manufacturers. Bad luck or not, the fact that I paid $35 to have it shipped, a 15% restocking and another $35 to ship it back (all unrecoupable expenses for broken merchandise that they sold to me) makes me pretty angry and I sure as hell will go waaaayyyyy out of my way to make sure that people know about it.

A 15% restocking fee for damaged merchandise? That's not normal.... what's going on with that? Do they not agree it's damaged?

    best regards,

According to Newegg's policy listed on their site they charge a restocking fee if you return for a refund (unless it's waived by a customer service rep). If you return a product for exchange there is no restocking fee and no shipping charge for the replacement item back to you.

You just need to speak with someone. The restocking fee does not apply unless you just "didn't want" the item, not for damages. I just returned a DOA power supply, they sent me a ups label for return, and I ordered a different power supply.

cryophonik, I would speak to one of their CS people though, see if they can do something to fix it. I mean , they want your repeat business.. there is a rule , for every 1 person that has a bad experience 10 more will hear about it.

If I get into a situation like that, you just turn it around and say.. well if you were me , is that the kind of service you'd expect / want? normally the person at the other end of the line etc will remain quiet and most will understand your frustration and do something proactive to try to fix it. It's common sense and well , just good for business.

my favourite line, was one I used when a courier STOLE an external hard drive for me.. neither the company who sold me the drive OR the courier contacted me, I was kept in the dark until I contact them..

so I said.. do you think I'm a mushroom? I don't like being kept in the dark and fed errm muck (there is a ruder version of that word I almost used)

I've never had a problem with either Newegg or Tigerdirect - in terms of returning stuff that was either DOA or died under their return window.

Hard drvies due to their moving parts can easily get damaged in transit, regardless of who you buy them from.

Mouse, I'd strongly disagree with that.. have you seen the boxes that say 10 hard drives or whatever come in.. even with 1 drive from where I buy from they are WELL wrapped.. airpack stuff.. that looks like bubbles.

if the courier decides to play football with the product, thats a different matter.. I had that with a PSU I bought.

I've never had a problem with New Egg (touch wood). It's easy to return if it is broke (I think they will cover the return shipping in that case).

Only thing is I have to pay TAX!!! ughhhh

So I mostly use Tiger Direct. Although, when I bought a E8500 CPU it was 100 bucks cheaper at New Egg! so I went for it.
