Does the X1 upgrade box come with a serial number?

I purchased the boxed upgrade along with the download and received serials only with the download. When the box arrived, the little yellow sticker with serial and product numbers was empty. So I suppose the same applies to sweetwater upgrade box. But I may be wrong because I ordered both via CW shop.

The flat-mailer packet I received from Sweetwater had serial numbers/key labels directly on the paper DVD envelopes; stuck to the flap on the back.  And these labels contained the serial numbers.  They were not blank and I did not have to ask Cakewalk for anything.

These products contained keys:

• Sonar X1
• Guitar Rig 4 LE (which I did not use since I have GR4 Pro via Komplete 6 and 7)
• Dimension Pro 1.5 (which I did use in lieu of my old Dimension Pro 1.2 from Sonar 8)

The X1 registration process was the same as before for Sonar 6, 7, and 8... you input your key and you get back a registration code.  Out of habit, I save my registration codes in my personal files in the event that I need to re-install Windows 7 or reubild a new PC.

they require proof of eligibility.. obv. if your upgrading from 8.5 the price is different from another cakewalk product.

look on the website store.. it states already the boxed upgrade doesn't have the number on it. The website store probably works in conjunction with  the "my account" thing I guess, and if it can't find the pre-requist then you can't buy it.. so if it's not listed there, you'll have to ring up customer service or send them an email.

they have other means of knowing your registered, just that is not accessible by us the end user.

I just talked with Sweetwater and even though their site says they have the item in stock, they do not!  So I will not be driving there.

I bought the X1 upgrade from Sweetwater the day after it came out. They told me they had plenty in stock and I would have it in 2 ~ 3 business days ... it's 12/27 and I still don't have it although other people on this forum got theirs. I have no idea what's going on but if you do decide to go with Sweetwater don't expect to get anything soon.

I agree it is a good idea.  It keeps people from cheating Cakewalk.  Providing proof of previous ownership is clear.

I have no issue with registering it....I would liked to have been able to do this today... but due to the sweetwater issues and the snow storm in BOston, it looks like I am out of luck.

Folks, Sweetwater is using US Postal Service to deliver the X1 upgrades. 

As you know, the US mail is slow this time of year, even when there are no storms.  And they are terrible about updating your status.  On the same day my X1 packet arrived, my "Sweettrack" page still said the delivery was in Fort Wayne "accepted for pickup" or something like that.

So you'll have to be patient.  It's not Sweetwater's fault.  If you want faster delivery, you need to ask your sales associate.

When I placed the 1st order they said it was in stock and would ship that day and I would have it in 3 ~5 days.

I waited 5 days and called to check on the order because I didn't get it and they said it was on back order but they were getting another shipment in the following day and would ship it right out. I said ok and waited some more.

I called back in to check on it again and they said it was on back order but they were expecting a shipment in the next day and would make sure (again) that my order would be shipped the following day. I then canceled the order.

They called me back the following day to ask why I canceled the order. I told them for several reasons, 1: because of all the bad things I was hearing on the forums and 2: because I felt like they were jerking me around by telling me it shipped when it hadn't.

They said, 1: "Don't listen to anything on the forums because the people who post there are not telling the truth and half of them are plants from competitors to make Cakewalk look bad." They said they haven't had any complaints about X1 and have got nothing but positive feedback. 2: They apologized for the shipping delay and said they had 70 units coming in the very next day and they would make sure that I would get mine shipped to me if I re-instated my order. That was last week, still haven't got it, and my credit card still hasn't been charged which means they didn't ship my order as of 12/27 (today).

So tell me how this has anything to do with the Post Office?

Just got an email from Sweetwater. X1 shipped this afternoon and they gave me a tracking number. I'm confused though, it's a Fedex tracking number? Huh.

What a lot of companies are doing now is having their inventory stocked and controlled by UPS. Some huge facility in Lexington if I'm not mistaken. I worked for a company who shut down all 3 of their parts/supply departments, fired a few hundred people, and gave it all to UPS Logistics.

Maybe something similar is happening with Sweetwater and Fedex?
