Does the "nothing to play' thing drive you nutz?

I'm finally starting to wrap my head around Sonar. I'm getting comfortable with the key commands and such, and some of its idiosyncracies. One thing that I still can't believe CW has programmed, is having playback stop if thre is nothing to play. Quite often I just want it to run with a click, or a drum VSTi...just to get ideas before I record.

Does this bother anyone else? Sonar is the ONLY program I know of that does this. I think it's a POOR CHOICE!!!

Yup...just record yourself a few seconds of silence. Export it to a WAV file stored in your Projects folder (or somewhere else with REALLY easy access). Then, whenever you need the transport to run, just import the silence WAV file, press CTRL+L (to loop it), and slip-edit the looped clip it out as long as you need.

you dnt need to import anything acually. simply use your mouse cursor and highlight the time region you want to loop, then hit the selectregion to loop button. done.

Thanks for the help. That will work well, especially if I assign a key to that command. It just seems like a crazy choice for CW! What were they thinking??

    Economy, I suspect.

I'd keep Sonar in Record mode anyway in case my "ideas" bore fruit. If they're all crap: Ctrl-Z.

I just have all my templates (including Normal.CWT) set with a 16 bar loop set. Nothing pre-recorded or anything, just Loop activated on 16-bars.
