Don't Call Me Sir

https://soundcloud.com/orygun/dont-call-me-sir

Not a candidate for the Nobel literature prize, just an observation on getting older.
Thanks for listening.

I walk into a store
The clerk comes up to me
A sweet young thing she  smiles at me
May I help you sir? she  says to me
May I help you Sir?
When did I cross that line
They call me
Sir

Never hear How's it going man?
Never hear Hey  What's happening?
What I get is May I help you Sir
Do you need some help with those
Bags Sir
When did I become a Sir
When did I cross  that line
Don't call me Sir

Ev'ry day I get a stack of mail
Letting me know about a hearing aid sale
An offer to move to Retirement City
The funeral home  has a deal for me
I can handle all those things  They don't bother me
But don't call me Sir

The waitress comes around
I get an automatic senior discount
My doctor doesn't know about bladder control
My doctor is 12 years old
I admit I'm getting old But show me some respect
Don't call me Sir
No don't call me Sir

Thank you. Don't know why this "sir" thing drives me so crazy. It was fun to write a song about it, tho.

Not sure if the duet would help her résumé any, but the suggestion did make my day.

I forgot to mention that I used Indiginus Resonator guitar here, so it's MIDI. I did play the notes with the keyboard and made corrections in PRV.

Yep. Thought this very thing once or twice . . . a day.

So it's obviously a clever musing, which is cool all by itself. Mix-wise, I think the drums are doing a swing feel but the rest are playing the 4/4 pretty straight. I'd drop the swing out of the drums to match the rest of it.

    very cool, Bjorn!

The lyrics made me smile, regarding the line "May I help you sir?" my default response is no I am beyond help.

Thanks for the smile I needed it.

    Lol.
I buy senior tickets for the movies online and haven't been called out when I present my digital ticket yet. I thought I was getting away with it but maybe I just look like an old fart.

I always get the scrutinous look at the ticket stand, like they're trying to figure out if they should offer me the senior ticket or not.

Love it, great lyrics. Huge smile on my face. :)
The "mail - hearing aid sale" rhyme is bloody brilliant.
Not shure about the swing in the drums, but everything else sits very nice.

    Great :)

Making lyrics rhyme is the hardest thing about songwriting for me.  Whatever meaning you're trying to convey gets changed a bit because you have to rearrange the verse to get that last word to rhyme with the previous line.

Portland does have alot of *polite* young people.  It's the teutonic heritage here. Regardless of their poly ticks, they're authoritarian.  Good germans as it were.

They'll stand in line for miles and miles if there's a lane merge up ahead.  On the east coast we just zoom up to the point of the merge and pile in.  It's an example how *following the rules* and *being polite* are more important than expediency.

Bjorn, I'm 65 and understand this well. LOL
FYI.. I went to grade school just down the river from you in St. Helens. Had relatives in St Johns and picked greenbeans on Sauvie Island as a kid.

Nice song and concept. The bass drum simply is not working with the song though. I've played drums since I was a kid and it just doesn't seem to fit due to the swing. I like the midi dobro sound. It is pretty good sampled simulation and that is coming from a pro pedal steeler who also plays dobro.  Enjoy the Roses this year!

I have family members who lived in St Helens so I know the town pretty well.
I take pictures of birds on Sauvie Island (bald eagles, sandhill cranes, etc) Great natural area.
I've messed up the drums before so I need to pay way more attention there. Thanks I appreciate the comments.

Small world. I still have relatives in both St. Helens and Scappoose.  I went to Mcbride Elementary and St. Helens Junior High. If you've been in the area for a while, you might have heard of my "Grandma Stallings" from Scappoose. She lived to 101 years and was very widely known both locally and nationally following several media articles about her. Sometime around late 60's my cousing Gene Allen Stallings was the youngest mayor in the USA when he became the mayor of Scappoose. He owns a world famous art/glass company but no longer lives in Scappoose. The Kennedy's and the Rudes in St Helens are kin.  There use to be a Mormon church at the end of S. 22nd. We lived across the street while my Grandma and Grampa Buzzard lived at 62 South 22nd. I belong to a Facebook St. Helens Musician group and plan to play pedal steel at a meeting at some point.   We'll see. It's been over 30 years since I visited the area but my wife and I bought a RV/Bus a couple years ago and plan to do a West Coast trip this spring.  Sorry to digress from the music. It just always amazes me how small the world can be.

Nice job, Bjorn.   I hear a bit of that straight over swing feel thing that Tom mentioned, though it's not overly distracting.  That Indiginus Resonator sounds good!

But the lyrics were the star...  "my doctor was 12 years old".
