Don't know the answer so...

I've gone from Sonar X2 to X3 to Platinum upgrading online. Should I be removing the older versions from my computer?

Only if you want to. They all can coexist peacefully.

It is not necessary, some like to have old versions around just in case there is an issue opening an old project in a new version or to test some unexpected behavior in a new version. Previous versions do not take up much space as most data and plug-ins are shared. If you installed the tutorials for the previous versions and do not need them, consider deleting them to reclaim about 1.6 GB. Completely deleting X2 and X3 will free up about 600MB (not counting the loop libraries). Getting rid of all the audio loops bundled with X2/3 would save about 5GB.

If you do elect to purge X2 and X3 consider cleaning all Cakewalk products from the machine and perform a clean install of Platinum, then add back the missing plug-ins and loops from the previous versions.
