Don't know how to use Line 6 in Sonar 8.5

Hi all,
I am a newbie here who is VERY green to using sonar but i am liking the little i've learned in the last couple weeks working in my Sonar 8.5.
i have a m-audio pro interface and i have been using that for my bass tracks and using that for guitar tracks and using Guitar Rig 3 as the audio fx.  It sounds great and very versatile and great playback too.

i also somehow found somewhere in my travels...in:
Look in: Sample Content Folder
File Name: Line 6 Pod v2
Files of Type: Studioware
Go to Folder: Template files
(i wrote this down where i found it so i wouldn't forget it, lol)

so my question is, how do i try out the Line 6 Pod.  honestly, i am trying tonight and can't even find it again.  it's not even in Managing Presets or Plug-ins...   Sorry, as i said, I am very green and not very savvy on these things...  Ant help is appreciated! Thanks!

    What pod do you have?

I would plug it into your M-Audio card and record it that way. I use mine that way with my audio card. I also only record either a clean or distorted guitar. No effects. I add everything in the mix. To me, it sounds a lot better and is easier to mix.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Hi BeyondFiredUp - welcome to the forum.

I still own and use a Line 6 Pod 2.0 with my system. The Pod 2.0 has standard 5-pin MIDI connectors (both in and out). It's old enough to not have a USB connector.

You'll need to download the Line 6 Edit software from the Line 6 web site and install it on your PC. You can then configure the software to use the correct USB ports. The software is actually pretty slick because there are a lot of presets that you can select by name. You can also download guitar sounds created by other users and then add those to your library.

Finally, you'll need to connect the Pod's audio outputs to your audio interface.

I never did get the Studioware going, but the Line 6 Edit software is the way to go anyway.

    Good luck.

I should have mentioned that the Line 6 Edit software lets you manage effects, amp sims, and speaker cabs. It's easy to tweak a preset, and then save it as a new sound. Enjoy.

It sounds to me that he doesn't own a POD but merely found the POD studioware template and thought it may be a soft synth.

BeyondFiredUp, this template is only used with the hardware POD 2.0 as a limited graphic editing interface.  It doesn't create sounds on its own.

If I misunderstood you then I apologize.

I have a line 6 pod pro rack mount, question I have always had was where to best plug it into the aardvark q10, the q10 has 4 insert jacks in back I was useing one of those, but got to thinking the line ins on front might be better. Now this mention of templates, what use would the template serve?

If I recall, the midi inteface is to save or download new patches (combinations of settings) to/from the POD. These are likely to be midi sysex format, which you should be able to do from Sonar.  I think Line6 has some free software to load patches with that can run outside of Sonar. Sonar probably has some studioware (graphical interface template) that allows you to control the POD via midi. I usually don't mess with that, since the actual knobs are 2 feet away.

As far as recording the sounds you already have in the POD, you don't need the midi connection, try using the line inputs on your interface to connect the POD. Some of the POD patches have stereo outputs, but I usually record one mono send from the POD.
