Somehow, signing up for a really good product (Free one at that) wouldn't be a "dealbreaker" for me....I haven't come across any free software (on the web) that you didn't have to first sign up before getting their product....

Glenn, it's been a few days. Did you get it figured out?
I ran into the same thing. Running Sample Tank (VST) as admin didn't clear the message. You need to run SHS (or whatever host you are using) as admin.
As a side note, if you have the ST from the group buy, DO NOT load ST Free on the same machine.
I have the group buy installed on my XP PC, so it's ok.
But when I originally tried to download ST Free, the only one showing in my user area, was actually still the one from the group buy (ST2-XT). Thinking I was downloading ST Free, I installed it on my laptop (where I use MC5 as the host).
After mucking around a bit, I got the real ST Free to show up in my user area, so I downloaded that, and installed it.
Well, It overwrites the original, as both install simply as ST 2.xx.
Problem was, the original serial number was still in place, and did not match what the authorization wanted.
It was easy to fix, with a system restore to before I started, and re-installing ST Free.
Perhaps an odd situation, but I wanted to see what was included with the free version, just for reference.
The included library is much more extensive than the old ST Free, and I really like the idea that a user can expand it without having to buy a different version of the core program.
It may not be too exciting for experienced users who have a well rounded collection of VSTi's, but I highly recommend it for newer users looking for more variety in their sounds.

The free library is a subset of the full library, so there is no benefit to installing STFree if you already have STXL.
Anybody try any of the deeply-discounted esoundz libraries yet? At $22, it might be worth taking a chance, but I really don't want to keep filling my disk with more libraries I won't actually use. I already have about 100GB of samples that I'll never use.
 All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

First off, thanks bitflipper, for posting this! I almost missed it. When I went to my user area, I had just 30days left to download this freebie.
It's late (2:52 am) here, so I wont try this out until latter in the day, but I think this is the best free sampler to date, because it's suppose to be fully functional!

A problem we all had with ST was using the mousewheel to scroll through the library content within ST.....it was not possible until now.....I just saw this at the KVR site but haven't used/set it up yet: " Also, for anyone whose mousewheel does not work in SampleTank2.5 VSTi, head over to asseca's site and get his ST2-mGUI wrapper:

With this you can browse your Instrument Library just using your mousewheel, keyboard arrow keys and PageUp/Down. And "Enter" loads the Instrument/preset."

Use a disposable e-mail address! I also got in on the group buy accidently because a gift card I got. I wan't sure what to use it for and ended up buying IK Multimedia's StealthPedal with Amplitube 3 and the Hendrix pack. Then got SampleTank 2L as a freebie. I then spent about $30.00 at esounds for bofo libraries and picked up close to 7 GBs of samples and loops. I've been having such a good time with SampleTank I forgot I could play guitar for a month. Getting it for free is worth risking some e-mails. I freakin love it!

1. How do I run Sample Tank 2 XL as admin in X2PE?
2. I've installed the applications and am about to load the XPansion Tank sounds (last ones to get in)onto my library drive G ...
a. Are the Xpansion tank sounds supposed to be in the Sample Tank folder or their own folder?
b. Is there an preferred order for one or the other ?

SampleTank 2 Free (or any) is 32 bit...
They must be getting close to SampleTank 3 to do this...
I got 2.5 XL when I bought the Total Studio Bundle...and it came with
every library except Film Orchestra 1 & 2...which can be bought at
Esoundz for about $10 each...
Let's HOPE that ST 3 64 bit with NEW Interface is on the Horizon!

We are indeed working on SampleTank 3. In fact there are a few people that were able to see the GUI at NAMM, but like I've stated before. We like to keep our software projects underwaps. Soon though. You should be able to run it as administrator by right clicking it and running it as admin. If you still are having issues our support is always here to help you 1 on 1.

If you right click on the Program Icon and go to properties, you can set it there to Run as Admin EVERY TIME and never have to worry about it...
Just quicker...LOL

Pent, In Win 7 Right Click on the Program Icon (X2) and select Run as Admin from the Properties menu...that should solve your problem... The SampleTank Libraries can be put where ever you want them when you install. You just have to change it during install. Alternately, if you move them, then just go to the Prefs in SampleTank and tell it where the Libraries are located.
