Dorchester - Drum maps with track templates crash Sonar
Create a track template say with AD2 with 16 audio outs assigned to a drum map via the midi channel. Close the project and create a new project and insert that track template.... half the time it crashes. It's hard to give specific steps, I suspect it's some null reference issue with the drum map itself (which it does not insert). Another thing, it won't remember the colors after you've saved the track template. In summary the fault appears to be: * Track templates must embed drum maps correctly. * Code needs to be written to accommodate for the colours. I haven't fully tested to see if there are any issues with buses and track templates. I have sent dmps to Cakewalk a couple of times via the automated method. Anybody get this in Dorchester?

I tested that and it seems ok on my PC. No crash. Colours all ok and saved in template. The one thing that stands out is that when you Narrow all Strips from the Strips Menu and then save, once you open the template they reset back to widen tracks. That may be the way it was designed. Its not very fast saving the template nor opening it. Otherwise everything ok. Quad core cpu with 16 GB of memory.

To confirm you managed to save colors in a track template in Dorchester? I'm not talking about project templates.. Thanks..

Just tried this. First time, no problem. When I closed project and opened it again (without closing sonar) it crashed. On a fresh start of Sonar, it opened no problem. But again, when I shut project (and did not shut Sonar) I crashed again when trying to open. On third try, I restarted Sonar, opened and shut the project several times with no issues. This was a project with a newly created track template of AD2 (16 tracks), drum map and custom colors on the tracks. Kinda weird for sure. Just did another experiment with a track template for AD2 I already had. It has 11 tracks. Inserted, added color (it was already routed to drum map) and I had no issue at all. Not sure what to make of it, but something seems amiss. I'm not over concerned, as it does not happen with the templates I already have set up.

That's exactly it. I logged two issues via automatic method sending dumps to cakewalk. Sadly I did not get an email notification giving me the CWBRN numbers .. maybe later hopefully.. If anybody manages to reproduce this please be sure you send the dump file to cakewalk - many thanks. Can a host please move this into problem reports as this has been validated by another user?

Of course saving and opening will work. Will you please see #1 and #5 it's more specific than that. You need to save/open with drum maps and multiple outputs. Were colors working for you or not? And were you saving a project template earlier (by mistake) rather than a track template earlier so your earlier comment can now be ruled out. Thanks.

Thanks fitz - it probably didn't crash because it seems to be intermittent see #5. I think maybe it's because you selected a drum map afterwards (I think it's something like a null pointer reference to the drum map). It's weird colours are working for you - see #4 Are you sure you are using Dorchester? Thankyou...

I also had a repeatable crash when inserting a track template, but it contained 5 synths (not AD2) ... crashed a second time when I tried again ... then it worked, but when I reopened the project and double clicked the synth to open it, it crashed again ... strangely enough, after a save it worked it seems like something related to track templates is broken (could be some loading functionality that was adapted for mix recall that is not fully backward compatible with the track template functionality???) no crash dump files created on my DAW, however, so I can't upload anything ... I suggest those getting crashes should also try with a different synth in the track template (not just AD2) and hopefully obtain some dump files for Cake to look at

I've not used mix recall once. I notice there are a few ways to trigger a crash. Starting project - like you say next time it does work which is weird. Also opening a project and playing a note on a controller. It all triggers from creating a track template with multiple tracks, a bus and a template and then inserting such a track template into a project. It seems to happen 50% of the time. The symptoms are exactly how FreeFlyBertl and sven450 describe.

That's why I believe that this is a track template problem (loading of parts of a project) rather than a drum map issue. I also did not encouter anything strange when using drum maps pointing to AD2, K5 or external drum modules.

I use Battery in all releases of Sonar, from X1 through Platinum=Dorchester, in track templates for just about every single project I have. I am not having these issues - except the bus colors or track colors don't seem to be retained in the track template. Bob Bone

This has been validated twice however by a different person - exact same symptoms, could you please move this to problem reports as per process. It is definitely a bug and not environmental. I have already politely asked hosts to move this and all I get is a comment "cannot reproduce". Argh!! Just because you can't reproduce does not mean you don't have to move this. Others have reproduced exact same issue #5 and #13. So that's three people reproducing. Thankyou.

I have seen it now sorry and have responded. Why forums software doesn't pop up with a ticket notification.. as if you are a host it does that... Anyway.. The fact is that three people have reproduced the exact same issue, and there are other similar issues possibly related or unrelated already in problem reports. I do not have a CWBRN I have chased Cakewalk for this (no response so far) as they have the dmp's. Maybe I'll try and reproduce this again. The handbook process is that validated issues get moved over to problem reports. We have two people validating this. It does not say anything in the handbook that a host must be able to validate it. At this stage a CWBRN is not necessary. Yes we probably need better steps and certainly a CWBRN. We might not get better steps however as it appears to be a dirty memory issue or null pointer issue, certainly not environmental. I shall continue to work on this issue, in the meantime it's in the wrong forum now.

I fixed the issue with drum maps not loading in track templates. This is definitely NOT specific to dorchester - the original release had the same issue. It was a case of code incorrectly thinking the drum map was modified as a result it was skipping the load. I also fixed the issue of modified maps being ignored (this one was present in all prior versions of SONAR as well) Now even if a template is loaded and the referenced drum map is not found it will load with the drum map data as stored in the project file so there is no data loss. Regarding the crash, its unrelated. I'm not sure what folks are running into. Without a CWBRN number I have no way to reference a dump file. However I did run into a crash when loading a track template with a drum map and fixed it. The recipe was to load a template containing a drum map, undo and reload the template. I had a recurring crash as long as the prochannel tab was open. Not sure if this is what people were running into but its fixed as well.

This isn't an issue I've run into, but it's nice that when a baker states that something's been fixed we can wonder if it's going to make it into the next monthly update. Just the concept itself is.... kewl.

Alex/Splat/Doktor/whatever/whoever, Despite the fairly large number of hours I spend in the forums, I DO sometimes have other things to do. I first encountered this thread upon seeing a ticket that was only created today. And while I am on average in the forums for approximately 8-12 hours a day, almost every day, after my first post to this thread around 4 hours ago, I had to go deal with some stuff on a Saturday. Within a short time after seeing the ticket, and seeing that in the thread there were several cases of sometimes it crashed and sometimes it didn't, I thought I would try it out with what I normally use, which is Track Templates with Battery 3 - and which does not crash for me. I posted my results, because it may shed some additional light on what may or may not be involved with whatever seems to be having intermittent crashes. I think it a bit rude to toss a hissy because you waited not even a whole hour between asking for it to be moved and then you declared you were 'fed up' that it had not been moved. Further, in that same post, you accuse the forum hosts - or maybe just me - of deliberately not moving the thread to problem reports because of who you are. And, you go on to insinuate that a forum host hadn't moved the thread because they couldn't reproduce. I don't care what name you post under - that's your business. I don't care that you chose to step down from duties as a forum host - that's nothing to do with me, and I certainly have never held or carried any feelings about that or about you one way or the other. In fact, I have on 2 different occasions, stepped in and smoothed things out for you when you were in ongoing conflict with others. But, I AM a bit miffed that you took the position that you did on this thread and ticket. I did not deserve that, and do not appreciate it. I certainly have made mistakes carrying out the duties and actions of being a forum host, and I have acknowledged them when that has happened, and seek to improve in that which I do. But if you think I would treat ANYONE in these forums any different than anyone else, then you never knew anything about me at all. Bob Bone
