Downloading X1 Producer now, can I uninstall 8.3 before I load X1 Producer

I am now downloading as I write this, although  slowly, X1 Producer.  Can I uninstall 8.3 Producer, Dimension Pro, and Beatscape  before I actually start loading the new programs on my computer?  I would like to do a clean install of X1 but I don't want to screw anything up if I uninstall 8.3 first.  Also, are there any features in 8.3 Ill loose such as drum loops, softsynths, etc. that I should copy first and then load into the new X1 software after installation?

Thanks for your help.  I decided to upgrade to x! after a couple months of reading the forum.

Yes, you can uninstall 8.5. X1 is a standalone install, and does not require an earlier version to be on the machine.

Right offhand, I can't think of any content that 8.5 included that X1 might be missing, but wouldn't swear on it.

The main thing you might lose would be settings and custom presets created under from earlier versions, but for the most part that should all still be available in the old registry and appdata paths that uninstall leaves in place. In fact, unless you clear those out yourself, removing 8.5 won't really give you a "cleaner" install of X1.

I personally wouldn't uninstall it. The workflow is so different that I found myself going back into 8.5.3 regularly to finish up things that I didn't have the time to figure out on X1.

I still have 8.5.3 installed today. I've found weird glitches here and there with X1. Since the projects are backward compatible (asside from prochannel - which is awesome), I'd keep it.

This isn't to say X1 isn't good, just that the learning curve is surprisingly steep when you're used to 8.5 =)

Thank you, one more question, do I have to install the x1a, x1b, and x1 quickfixes updates if Im installing a newly purchased Sonar x1 update or are these included in the present download?

Also, I am using Sonar 8.3, not 8.5 if that makes any difference to my previous query.

    Thanks again,

Good question. Check the version after installing. It should be under help -> about or something like that. If you don't have them, get them. x1a and x1b are mandatory. I haven't loaded the quick fix yet, I'm holding out for a formal patch, since the quick fix isn't soaked like the others.

Be aware of the random interleave switching bug though. That happened to me the other day and I spent 20 minutes trying to figure why my tracks were tweaking (the interleave set to mono cause some plugins to go nuts).

Shouldn't be any diff between 8.3 and 8.5.

    Good luck and have fun!

The base X1 download does not get updated. You have to install both a and b updates, but only the latest Quickfix (they're cumulative).

I'd leave v8.53 on your machine while you're getting accustomed to X1.
This will allow you to make a smooth/graceful transition... at your own pace.

I'm of the camp that really likes the organizational changes in X1.
The first several sessions, you'll likely be working slower in X1... as you're absorbing where things are located/etc.
    Just give it some time/patience...

I just completed loading and  installing X1  from 8.3.  Everything seemed to go well except i am receiving an "error loading:  guibitmap" message when I launch the X1 shortcut on my desktop.  Is this a problem?  did I do something wrong on the install?  It bothers me if I continually get this message every time I launch X1.

As always, thanks for any advice you cn give me.

Hey, I am in the same situation, starting to download X1 now.

Two questions: in 8.5 i had to rewrite some stuff in the audio.ini file to make it recognize my multi core system. Is this the same in X1?

I payed extra for the mp3 decoder. Can I still use this with X1 or do i have to buy this option again?!

    Thanks,

    Philipp

Uh, more questions. I was sent to a page with download links. it's a table structure filled with links. links 12 - 23 are named DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS, all with the same name.

Are they all the same? Also no links are provided for updates and hotfixes!?

Did you accept the default install location when installing X1?
Sounds like there was a problem with the install.  Did you see any error messages when installing X1?
I assume a Bitmap (graphic) file/s is missing.
    I'd uninstall... and reinstall X1.

You can either install the new versions of Dimension Pro and Beatscape...
Or you can install the older versions and patch them to the latest.
(Either way will yield the same end result)

If you don't use Dimension Pro or Beatscape, you can skip the download/install.

The "Use Multiprocessing Engine" option (under Preferences>Playback and Recording) should be enabled by default.
I believe you can use the MP3 encoder with X1.

If you still get the error, make sure you're running Sonar as "admin" if you're on Vista / win7. Shouldn't happen, but worth a try.

The lexicon reverb is missing in X1....I used a old disc to install it.
