Downsides to configuring a plugin as a synth

Are there any? I have a couple of plugins I configure as a synth such as Peavey Revalver so I can set up a remote control to learn my expression pedal for its wah pedal etc. Basically any plugin which I frequently need to use MIDI input. I'm considering configuring ALL my plugins as synths so I can decide to midi control any plugin at anytime and only have one menu to navigate. Any possible issues or downsides?
