Downtown Drifter
As you know, I have been trying to write music in different styles and thought I would have a go at Country. Hmmmmm! Perhaps not! Anyway, this is what I came up with. A short piece called "Downtown Drifter" featuring the lovely Vocaloid Miriam on vocals. I had a real problem trying to get a soft synth guitar sound like a slide guitar - no, I didn't succeed but I tried! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11473737 Definitely not "Crow" or "Yum Yum" but I hope you like it. Best Regards Malcolm

Yet, another lovely song from you. I don't really hear this as country, but it does work as a pop song. Miriam has a beautiful voice which is ideally suited for this song. The main thing that stands out to me is that Miriam's voice sounds somewhat muffled, like she was singing through a piece of cloth. I would recommend a 2 or 3db bump between 2.5 and 3khz to give a little clarity to the vocal. Other's opinions may vary, but this is a song worth getting right, and you don't have to do much to get there. Good songwriting, Malcolmb.

Hi Lynn - Sincere thanks for listening and so pleased you like it. And very many thanks for the advice - greatly appreciated and I will do that. I do know what you mean about Country / Pop - I really could not decide what genre it was (!) so ended up putting it in Country-Pop - at least that way I hedged my bets!

Personally, I do not like the Miriam vocals on this one. I would consider either going full instrumental, or getting somebody like Robby to sing the lyrics for you. Outside of that, I think the song is very good.

Hi foxwolfen - Sincere thanks for listening. I do agree with you that Miriam has her place and perhaps this style is not one of them. I guess I just tend to use what I have and accept the limitations on the grounds that I never believe any of my songs will have a life beyond a few short days at this forum (but I do live in hope!). And I am always very reticent to ask anyone to give up their valuable time to work with me - who would think someone my age could be that shy - shucks! Best Regards Malcolm

Heh heh. I hear you. I would ask him. I suspect his voice with this song would be well suited.

Hi Malcolm I agree with foxwolfen, this has a great melody but Miriam doesn't do this one justice. I am sure that there are a ton of people in this forum would love to work with you. Daryl

Hi Malcom AXE her ! Just kidding , I really think she would do better singing in a Japanese type song then this tune you created . I like the music but as a country song its not smelling like cowboys boots and whiskey . As always you always create good music , for this one instrumental is the way to go . Radio

Hi Daryl - Sincere thanks for listening - the great thing about the internet is that you can work with someone without them being in your house - that way, only I have to cope with a rampaging, sulking woman who at the moment is ripping out the ceiling with her teeth! Yep, Miriam read your comment! Looks like I'm sleeping in the shed tonight! Hi James - AXE her?! Oh Great! Now all I have to cope with is an Unfair Dismissal prosecution, Severance Pay and ground glass in my Yoghurt! Life is never easy! I am just wondering what Cowboy Boots smell like - perhaps it's all those beans - Phew! Sincere thanks for listening - I suspect I may go the instrumental route - but don't tell Miriam! Best Regards Malcolm

Hi Scotty - Sincere thanks for listening and you are right - (I'm typing this very quietly so Miriam can't hear - hopefully!).
