Drag and Drop files in / out of the track view
I used to be able to just drag audio clips from my computer and drop them into tracks in sonar, but now I can't. Anyone know what's up? I keep having to go through my directory structure to find my files to import (I"m going through a mastering class at Berklee Music) and it's getting annoying. Copying the track out of the track view works fine. Cheers,

I'm talking about dragging and dropping from the Windows (such as the desktop) into track view.

--Interesting. I've never dragged a file in from the desk top to Sonar. I didn't know you could ever do that. I use Import or the browser, usually import, since I know the locations of what I want and it's a smooth operation. RB

I can drag from eg. Windows Explorer to the Track View in both 8.5.3 and the X1 demo, no problem. What file format is this? I tried with .wavs just now to check. Do you get a message when you drop the file? Edit: Works fine dragging a .mid file to/from from the desktop and TV, too. This has worked for as long as I can remember, so I had to check the X1 demo, but it seems fine. -Susan

Neat - I had to try this dragging from Windows, since it never occurred to me before to try it. I see it works, but it was awkward dragging from the desk top, needing to temporarily make Sonar smaller. Probably easier from an open folder. Interesting - The Sonar browser and Import options seem tidier and more efficient to me, but fun to find out something new. Randy B.

Lol, so most everyone but me can do it. hah! This is something I was use to doing since Sonar 1.0 - 6.0, but after going to 8.5, no love any more. On XP or win7. The files I try to copy in are waves. They import fine through file -> import.

You didn't say if you get a message when you try to drop the file. Do you get a red "no-can-do" circle or anything? -Susan

Cursor turns into a no can do circle (like no smoking w/o a cigarette in the icon). I just realized that I can save locations using the media explorer, so that at leasts let's me conveniently drag from there. Next best thing, I guess.

That is probably a file that isnt compatible. Did you try a different file? Try a .wav file or even .mp3 I use this all the time.

The files are definitely compatible. Mp3 does the same thing. Sonar just gives me a big fat no.

Again, they all import just fine when using file -> import or the media browser, it's just kind of a nuisance. Cheers

I wonder if there is a setting you may have unchecked or vise versa?
