Ok a few things, although the guitar part is played well, I think that you are using a Midi soundbank, it's not a real guitar?? yea so I find that a little off putting.  Sorry in advance if I have got that wrong and I hope I haven't otherwise I have egg on my face.

Your wife has a really nice voice but for me there are a couple of over sung notes where she waviers slighty, don't worry I have had this said to me before as well (I sing too).

For me you need to bring her voice up slighty in the mix and add some more verb to the overall track, I would stick with one verb maybe a plate.

    Apart from that good job.

    Peace Ben

So your correct.  its midi.  I did play it but I played it on keys.  Not sure why that is off putting but Im glad you werent sure.  funny thing is that I pulled the verb back a bunch right before you posted.  I had too much but maybe I pulled back too much.

Wife isnt happy with her recording either but she doesnt have the patience for recording.  so I did it in one take.

As I fix my tie, stretch my neck, and get ready to do my best Rodney Dangerfield impression, alas, I must resist and leave it at ... your wife has a nice voice, but she could be great if she could do it in more than one take. ;)

The midi sounds like midi, but well done midi.

    In conclusion, I liked it.

your wife's vox are good in most places, there are a few places it would be good to redo them.

"dream a little dream of me" every time she does that part it's excellent!

I don't care for the MIDI guitar either - there are a lot of people who might be willing to add real guitar if you ask them.  I also don't like the strumming 100% left and the picking 100% right.  that would be OK, IMO, if they were both playing through most of the song, but since the strumming is the only thing playing for the first 1/2 that leaves the song very lopsided for too long.

    very good rendition, tho!

Getting a guitar to sound real when it's played from a keyboard is not easy.  There may be better samples which resonate longer, which I think is what gives this away.  As for resinging the vocal, maybe try one take per day until you're satisfied.  Hopefully you haven't run out of tracks.  As for the reverb, I think you were wise to  dial it back which makes the instruments and vocal more intimate.  All in all, a fun listen.

    All the best,

Im using music labs realguitar which is the best guitar sample program I have ever seen.  could just be my touch.  Ill play around to see if I can increase the resonance.  How about the solo line?  I really felt good about that one.

Also, my wife has decided she wants to resing the vocal.

    Momma Cass tune...very cool.

Nice job on the song. And your wife has a great voice.

    Comments:

On my system it sounds like the "guitars" are distorting and overdriven in a bad way. It is like a clipping sort of distortion.

I would change the guitar patch to a piano patch and let it be a piano song with vocals.  Done right....this thing would be sooooo cool.

On the vocals, I heard a few places that should be redone.  One vocal take is rarely good enough. Not even the pro's do one take and call it a day. You need to take the time to get it right.

    Jeff,

Nice job, I think your wife has a really nice voice.  Good programming on the guitar, but , stringed instruments with MIDI just don't really cut it unless they are buried in the background.  I think you need real guitar to take it to the next level.

What did you use for the guitar.  Well played, I think the Martin steel string patch in Dim Pro would sound really good with what you have here.

Nice, period sounding voice, would fit well with any 40s band.  Nice job both of you.

Hey Daryl, Im using music labs realguitar with the nylon fingered samples.   funny you should say that about my wife.  She is a period singer for a group www.legacygirls.com They sing Andrew Sisters and do a 50's show as well.
