Dreams & Nightmares

Hi Guys,
I must apologise in advance, I've not had the time to listen and comment on your music. I've been very short for time. Short deadline on my newest piece. Written and mixed in under a week. I think that's a new record for me.
Anyway, have a listen and let me know what you think. All views welcome.

Once I've completely finished with this one I'll have some spare time to go through all of your songs that I've missed over the past week.

Ok, update. I used this piece to enter a competition and I would appreciate it if eveyone could vote for me :) I have 1 vote at the moment. (me!) :)

Many thanks & take care,
   Gus

    Hi Gus

This one sounds well produced. I am not a fan of the guitar patch...at least it sounds like a guitar patch starting at around :37......too scratchy for me...maybe its a synth, but to me it sounds like a guitar sent through some kind of synth pedal. The rest was pretty good etherial music.

That was really cool!   Very ethereal and creepy vibe all the way through.

Mix-wise there seems to be a little high-end harshness (even in the intro) that's a little distracting IMO.  It's hard to pick out exactly what it is with these cheap PC headphones, but I think if you could smooth it out this would be a nice one under the belt.

Great production as usual. I think if I were mixing this I might try notching it a little  around 2.5k. It does have a little edge to it IMO. Sounds great other that to me.

    Hi Tim,
Thanks for listening and commenting. The distorted gt part is a big mix of ambient cello, baritone gt, distorted bass and gt. It have a synth edge to it as is all midi and doing some crazy fx things.

    Thanks again Steve,
You are totally right, I've been fighting with the harshness on this one. To my ears it sounded like the piano was clipping, but it's not. Think I've got it sorted now.

Many many thanks for saying that Monty, As I've just mentioned to Steve, I have been fighting with finding the high end problem but couldn't see (hear) where it was.
I've done as you have asked and think it's done the trick. Just mixing down now...

I really like that percussive string instrument in the beginning, either a harp or a dulcimer. Then the transition there @ 1:15, very creative. One thing I would change, those accents that come in starting @ 1:40? with the drums and bass? Man, I would kick that in the arse... It should PUNCH through the mix, which it currently does not, it's kind of flat currently (in the background) and the drums in general which come in afterwards, really need more punch.

Hi Robbie, It's actually a guitar. Weird, through my cans the drums sounded really large. I'll have a look out for some punch for you.
Also, please vote for my tune! I wanna win.

    Best regards,
    Gus

OK, listening again tonight on a different set of cans. It would be lovely to have a different set of cans every night...

nope, same problem. It's like the drums and bass are muted. I hope it's not a problem with my sound card, I can't afford to replace it just now.

And I would vote? But I don't do FB.

I'm sure it's my side of things Robbie. This is the first time that I've added drums to a mix of mine. I also don't use FB, but need to to get the votes in.
