Drum Map Issues with Everett Update 1

People were reporting drum map issues with Everett 1 in announcement thread. Here's a placeholder for these issues.
If you are having issues please provide your steps to repro here.
(I've create a new thread for this because if the issues are reproducible this thread will end up in problem reports, hosts will not be able to move the announcements thread, and plus it will be easier to discuss on a dedicated thread).

Good thinking  Although drum maps seem to be working here...

Regarding fitzj's post: "The drum map is now staying attached when you save the track Template but in Piano view it not showing the attached drum map. Anyone else have this problem?"

If there are any synth or audio tracks included in the PRV track picker, the PRV will default to showing the Notes pane when the project is re-opened, and you have to re-select View > Show Drum Pane.

This is not a new issue, but might be what he's encountering.

I think you're right there Dave.

Drum  maps are definitely and consistently "sticking" whenever I open my projects - and they also trigger as they should.

View > Show Drum Pane.  is not the issue.

When you say there's no map, do you mean you're seeing the Notes pane with the piano keyboard or maybe just note numbers at the left? It's possible to have the drum pane enabled with the divider between the Notes pane and Drum pane pulled up so high that the drum pane is effectively hidden.

It might help if you post a screenshot(s) showing the PRV, the output assignment of the MIDI track, and the drum map.

If you have your controller pane too high up the screen the drum map will still be hidden, even though you've chosen to display it

If you hover your mouse in the are indicated by the red rectangle it will turn into a double headed arrow.

Now click & drag downwards to reveal the Drum Map

I'd like to jump in with a slight sidetrack.  I'm running X3E and the drum maps load OK but when I open a midi clip for editing, the drum map is small at the top and the piano roll view takes up a bunch of the screen.  I keep having to resize the piano roll so it disappears, which is quite annoying.  Am I missing an option somewhere?

I  created a new Template using Ezdrummer.   I attached the Ezdrummer drum map but nothing in PRV. I then changed  the output of the midi track to a different map and that show up in PRV.
I then select Ezdrummer drum map  and that works. Export the template but when I load the Template again the mapping is not in PRV.

Re: Drum Map Issues with Everett Update 1 2015/06/11 19:15:07 (permalink)
I have experienced the dreaded "Everett Update Drum Map Issue" and have now replaced my .exe file as suggested here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3230840 .  So far so good.

What I am wondering, though, is how will I know when it is safe for me to start using the CCC again?

A couple of other thoughts I have had as a result of this experience:

1) New updates could be noted as Beta versions until the dust settles a bit.  This allows those techies that like to test out the latest features to participate in the product development while the rest of us enjoy a relatively reliable product.  I will be waiting at least a week or two after any update is announced before updating from now on.

2) The new naming convention is really problematic.  Now instead of typing X3e we need to type Platinum Everett, or worse yet Professional Everett.  There is an old adage in QA: Nothing creates more arguments than "naming conventions" so I know there will be many views on this.   However, it appears that the marketing department made this decision at Cakewalk.  It does seem that names rather than numbers is all the rage in software these days.  It is highly likely that in the future we will look back at this "long name" era and feel really embarrassed about this.

Cheers,
Richard

If you are up to date in the CCC I think you should put it back to what is was! Sonar Everett Update 1 replaces it.
Cakewalk needs to remove that exe file now.

Yes, in order to differentiate maybe I should have referred to them as "common names", which is what people refer to in our posts and what is normally used in searches.
Thanks,

I have another issue regarding drum maps. . . not sure if it's a bug.  I'm wondering if there's a way to get an instrument track to use a drum map?  Right now I have it set up as a separate MIDI track assigned to the drum map, the drum map is assigned to AD2, and then a separate audio track takes the AD2 outputs as inputs.  When I create a simple instrument track, there's no way to select a drum map. . . any way to make this work?

By the way, I updated to Sonar Artist. . . loving it.  I don't think it's too big of a deal to me to have given up the ProChannel. . . I don't do that much mixing anyway!

I think they're ok when what you are doing is "simple", but as soon as you introduce any degree of complexity - such as drum maps or multi-midi outs then using them is simply asking for trouble.

Not a big deal. But I do wish there was a more simple way. It would be nice to be able to insert AD2 as a simple instrument track and have the note names appear in the drum pane without too much fuss. I do all the drum mixing inside AD2.

I often use AD2 as a single instrument track and it works quite well.  I created a drum map for AD1 several years ago with proper names for the instruments and it still works fine with AD2.  If I remember it was pretty easy and was worth the effort since it forced me to understand drum maps a bit better.  If you don't want to create your own drum map then I think you can use the one that Cakewalk provides one, look for AD2 or some variant in the drum maps.  There is also someone named Subjacent who provided one on the internet if memory serves.

(I hope I understood your question right; please accept my apologies if I misunderstood.)

Cheers,

Follow up to my last post:
Of course you do need to record or paste midi into a separate midi track but that goes without saying I would think.  but maybe not after reading the earlier posts again.

So no bugs? If that's the case here's looking forward to a brand new drum map UI, and killing that spreadsheet thing in preferences (where it doesn't belong anyway). May end up being a pleasure rather than a pain to use one day.
