Drum Map Limitation

I usually use drum maps as its great to use the step sequencer along with it and to keep the drums all together in one track, but I do find one limitation - key tracking!  Meaning, I want to make a pitched kick or snare drum across several keys from a softsynth.  This can't be done using drum maps because you need the full range of keys for that.

Am i correct in this or is there a way?

Here is a video of what I am trying to do in Battery:

I don't think that this is possible with Drum Maps.  What you are pointing to is manipulation of a sample, which requires a sampler of some sort, which Battery is effectively - even if it is just being used as a sample player.

Drum maps are just pointing certain keys or midi notes over to a particular sample / note to trigger.  It is not affecting that sample, just pointing at it.  Totally different purpose than what you are looking for.

Does that explain it / Help?

Yes, key-tracking is a function of the synth. In theory you could have a synth patch that gave you ten different conga articulations spread across the note range with each articulation having tuning spread over an octave. And a drum map could accommodate that with names like Lo Slap 1-12, Hi Mute 1-12, etc, but you'd have to have the patch defined first; a drum map alone can't make that happen.
