Drum Maps: Option Not Available in Output Menu

 Hi All,

This is likely the noobest of noob questions, but after reading the Sonar X1 help and digging around on this forum as reading the relevant section on http://www.gatortraks.com.../index.php?topic=26.0, I still can't find the place where I would assign a drum map.

I'm trying to set up a drum map for EZDrummer and I think I'm looking in the wrong place to assign the Output to the map.

I had a screen capture all prepared so I could show where I'm looking, but I don't see any way to include it in my message, so I'll try to describe it instead:

In the track "header" where the track is identified as a MIDI track, there is a series of drop-downs. I'm looking at the one labeled with an 'O' which has a tooltip of: "Output to = E-MU ASIO ASIO Out 1"

Is this the right place or is there another Output for the track where I'm supposed to do this?

I also went into Preferences->Drum Map Manager and made sure my EZDrummer maps are all appearing in the list. On another sort-of related topic, whenever I try to Preview a post on this forum, I get a window containing the single word: undefined. Anyone know why I can't preview messages before posting?

It seems I also can't edit my messages to correct grammatical errors.

I forgot to mention: in the drop-down menu for Output, I don't see any mention of drum maps. I seem to remember that there was one in Sonar 8.5, but since I haven't used it in a while, I can't say for sure.

You should be able to see the drum map as an output from a MIDI track. What you may be doing is using an instrument track. These tracks are convenient but limited in what options they offer.

Turn the instrument track into an MIDI and an audio track and you should be able to use drum maps.

Hi John, Thanks for the reply. The track I'm using was inserted automatically when I added EZDrummer in the Synth Rack and it has a little icon of a keyboard. Isn't that a MIDI track or am I misinterpreting something?

EDIT: Oh, I just double-checked. The next drop-down below Output is MIDI channel, so that's right, isn't it?

    EDIT 2: Oops!
Figured it out. When I added EZDrummer to the Synth Rack, I added it as a "simple instrument" instead of a "MIDI source." Thanks for getting me thinking again, John. (forehead slap)

I don't use instruments tracks because I like the options of having the MIDI and audio track separate.

And I wouldn't slap myself for not knowing something that is not easily evident.

Thanks, John. It was only a digital slap and didn't hurt much besides my pride. :-)
