Drum Samples

I am not new to Music Creator but I am new to drum samples, how can they be inputed into the program so I can map it with the drum map? Or is that even possible? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Samples, by their nature, are audio clips, mot midi.

However, some synths, depending on the individual synth, can use those samples from midi data.

Others are simply audio clips that you drag and drop into an audio track to build a drum track on sample at a time.

What drum program are you planning to use? Knowing that will allow us to answer the question accurately.

Jamstix uses sampled drums that play with midi notes.  I think the drums that come in the cake programs are samples that you simply drag and drop into the tracks. I don't use the cake drums, because I create them differently. That's where, knowing what you are using will be helpful. Someone who uses that particular method can chime in to assist.

Yeah, as hacker says, we need to konw more about what you're planning to use and how you are wanting to "map" them.  the drum map in itself is not necessary for most drums - any drum synth that is GM mapped doesn't need a drum map - drum maps are only for softsynths/drum synths which are NOT GM mapped so that you can map the input of the MIDI notes to the correct non-GM output notes.

I am looking to do it within music creator itself, or if you have another program you recommend that works too. And by drum map, I mean edit them in the piano roll.

Piano roll and drum map are two different functions in Music Creator.  If you're talking about the Piano Roll View (PRV), that's not the same thing as the drum map.

which version of Music Creator do you have?  if you have MC5 or MC6, then you have SI Drums included with it and you can edit drum hits in the PRV with the mouse OR you can audition MIDI loops and drag and drop them onto a track from the SI Drum GUI and create drum beats from that.  you can also edit individual hits in the PRV after you've dragged and dropped the MIDI loops if you don't like a particular part of it.

There are some nice sounding drums in MC now. They tried to make it as much of a complete package as possible knowing that most people are one man operations and usually only play one instrument...and that being guitar or piano.

There are a number of really nice drum specific synth's available. the nicer ones cost more then MC by itself cost, but they are very popular, sound good, and are easy to work with. Many come with multiple kits and styles and some even have artificial intelligent "drummers" in them..... Jamstix being the one I'm referring to.

Some, you build your own tracks and others like Jamstix, will build a track for you based on the input you give it by choosing a drummer, a kit, and a style. Jamstix is sweet. www.rayzoon.com It will build a track for you as it plays along... just like a real drummer. And, you can easily go back and edit what it played, add fills and accents, and even edit the tuning of the drum heads if you desire.

It was, If I recall, one of the first 3rd party synths I bought and I loved it from day one.  they still have demo versions you can load and try.

The demo is of course, limited. But it will give you an idea of what is possible with JS3.

Bobby - I think there are some drum sfz's available, but personally I would not want to do drums using SFZ+ - it would be a pain because of the multiple hits and mapping.

Once I started to use sampled drums, I stopped using the synth drums.

The samples are hands down the better sounding of the two.

    +1 me too.

EZD and Superior Drummer and expansion packs...fantastic!

(and sometimes I use BIAB to create the MIDI for them and sometimes I even use REAL DRUMS from BIAB!)
