Drum Solutions

Hi Guys,

Seeking some advice.

Im a competant guitarist, an ace pianist and vocalist and have been recording some tracks. But I'm not in any way, shape or form a drummer. I don't musically think like a drummer. I'm doing ballads, soft rock, some shuffle, some folk...

Audio Loops are no use to me, I can't split 'em up so can't seperate the kick and snare come mix time and besides, I have tried some loop packs but nothing quite fits, SD3 has midi loops that are OK but always a little off the wall for me.

Driving me round the bend. My tracks would be ace, but for drums....

Best advice please? Is there a good solution out there I'm missing that won't then require multiple purchases of add ons that dont quite fit? Perhaps I should just work the tracks out by banging the beats out from my keyboard, but like I said, I don't think like a great drummer can.

Someone lend me Nick Mason or Phil Collins!

Good things to all

Write your own MIDI drum patters.  That's what I do, and I get just what i want.
I'm a guitarist, bassist, pianist, but can't play the drums either.  But programming is different, you don't need the coordination just the ear.

I too am not a drummer.... and pointing and clicking a midi drum track was just to time consuming for me, and it sounded amaturish when it was finished..... so I searched for a better way...... and here's what I found.....

I use a variety of drum tools now. However, I started with and still use a program that cost about $140 called Jamstix2.

It is an intellegent drummer. You tell it the style, choose a drum kit from dozens available, pick a drummer (yeah each one has a unique style from straight up lay down a solid beat to very competent jazz stuff and beyond), and set JS up to jam with audio, midi, follow a midi track or freestyle. I normally let it freestyle. It creates a unique and very realistic drum track that is easy to edit, add fills, change the drum specs, remove unwanted beats or add my own to what the drummer did, and all sorts of things.  I love it. I can literally have a quality track done in 10 to 20 minutes.  Listen to some of my music.... none of it has a "real drummer". All of it's sounds are samples ..... not midi synth sounds.

You can get a demo to try it out at www.rayzoon.com   if you buy the full version, be sure to remove the demo completely before installing the full version. BTW: they also have superior tech support.

I recommend Jamstix highly for non-drummers that want a good solid drummer.
