Is it just kontakt player that needs activating, or the library itself? Will it work in k5 without activation? Tia :-)

The Activation is for Drum Mic'a....not the player..so it will work, but only in Demo mode...AFIK

Eddie TX Thanks for the tip on this, cclarry! I got the library up and running. Learned a bit of Deutsche along the way. The drum samples themselves aren't the best I've ever heard, but what makes this kit fun are the different mic choices. I don't think I know of another drum library that allows you to choose from a virtual locker full of high-end mics (Senn and Neumann, in this case) and compare how they sound. Cool stuff! Cheers, Eddie
Obviously I'm way biased... and who can argue with free... But I don't care for the sound. Sounds like the 70s, totally dead, dry as a bone... cardboard drum sound. Granted, you can take the open/ringing sound too far (sounds messy)... but I like a more open/balanced tone. One other thing: If you're recording drum samples to show off extensive/expensive mics, why not use a "real" drum kit? Acrylic drum shells (while neat to look at)... just don't sound like a great DW or top-tier Sonor (maple or birch) kit.
Jim, Did you go through the presets? There's Blues 1 & 2, BritPop, Dicso, DNB 1 & 2, Funk 1, 2 & 3, Hip Hop, Trip Hop,, Jazz 1 & 2, Metal 1, 2, 3 & 4, Pop, Phacore, Reggae, RNB, Rock 1 & 2, Dt Rock, Lo-Fi, Cranked, Clautro, Extreme, Ambient, and you have a built in EQ, Transient Designer, Tune, and Compressor and Room Reverb. You can also select the Mic for each kit piece from the Mixer view... That's pretty impressive for free... Obviously not WOW I HAVE TO BUY THIS FOR $300 NOW, but for free....it's pretty nice... And, as I said, the MIDI alone is worth the download..

I didn't listen to the presets. The demos on the website all have that 70s sound (dry/super close). Adding reverb or ambient processing won't change that fundamental character Given the mic pedigree, I was just expecting something with a little more WOW factor. But again... I'm extremely biased... and have definite opinions on drum recording/sounds. Being able to select different mics is awesome... (other libraries offer this as well) IMO, A great drum sound starts with a great sounding kit (just like with any other instrument). Acrylic looks interesting... but a pro-level maple or birch kit would have been a more versatile/universal foundation. ie: If you were going to develop a guitar or bass sample library, would an acrylic guitar/bass be your starting point? Anyway... just my .02

Downloaded. Tried to register, but even after receiving the confirmation email, I can't log into my account. Not sure if I will use this program, but I have already moved the midi files onto another drive; the midi might be useful. I tend to agree with Jim Roseberry about the sound of the drums; not sure I like the tone and punch, but will play some more with it to see how it sits in mixes. [Edit: I do like the ability to try out the various mics. The three or four overhead options really are noticeable. I can see using different mics for different songs. This is more dramatic than in other drum programs; at least it is more noticeable to my aging ears. Nice feature indeed.]

phrygiann Will this work in SD3?
Its a Kontakt Library so no, but the MIDI could be used. cclarry said "Digging a little deeper..you can map it to BFD, Superior, EZDrummer, Addictive Drums, V-Drum TD-12-20 and 3-6..." I am not sure what he meant by that, I suspect he means the notes can be mapped so they are same as those products. maybe he can clarify.

AS Glyn said, you can use the MIDI in SD3.... It defaults to GM Mapping...but... In the "Options" setting there is a "Check Box" for mapping the notes to a given drum sampler to match up... So, if you want to use it on MIDI that was mapped to one of those programs you just click the check box and it matches up... pretty slick...

I'm in the same boat as cecelius...I'm downloaded and installed but cannot log into my account to get my activation thingy. I tried again just now using the emailed link but it still no workee. So...since this is a TOTAL freebie...do you think it's possible that everybody gets the same activation code? Like the WAVES thing last month. If a couple of you fellers want to PM me the code I'll promise you this: If it's the same, I'll use it too. If they're not the same, I'll simply delete them and forget about them and keep trying to log in to my so called account. One thing I'll give em...they sure do make some folks work for the dang thing;-)

Ol Pal.. http://de-de.sennheiser.com/service-support/drummica then, from the menu select "Login" (first option if it's still in German) on the grey menu bar.. once logged in go to "Info and Dowloads" on the same menu bar... You should be able to generate an Activation Code from there... If it's not there...go to "Profile" (2nd Option) and then select "Serial Number"...that should generate it for you...

For a free download I guess this might be called a no brainer but as for the different presets I'm not so sure. I think they're just using one kit and then using the on board effects to get their different styles which is fine in theory and something addictive drums does brilliantly considering it's 2GB library but the on board effects are poor IMO so I'd be more inclined to use other effects.A lot of the presets I just listened to sounded awful and plastic to my ears. The snare has a terrible ring that's almost like a droning noise as it just doesn't tail off like it should.I know it's hard to argue with free and I feel mean to criticise it but it's probably not going to get another airing on my DAW. The mixer is hmmm.... interesting but I'd sooner just route all tracks to sonar and do it all in there as it's only slightly better than using kontakts mixer. I do feel quite spoilt having BFD2 mixer and effects whenever I use other mixers I don't use midi loops except to audition kits quickly but some people will want them and they sound ok. Do like the fact that they can be mapped for other drums vsti's so it's not all bad Steve Another thing, changing the mics may seem great but a bad sounding kit will sound bad regardless of the mics you use and changing them for me seems to make very little difference.

Played with it with electronic drumset, triggers very well, I like the processing presets to cover a pretty large base of sound. The only problem I feel is I can't use Drum Maps with it, seems to be related to Kontakt.

Had the same problems as OlPal had. Finally got it. I can see where it may have it's uses. I'm not happy that you can't change mics in Kontakt VST mode. It works great in standalone. Seems you can only trigger the existing factory kit by midi. I can't access the beats, etc. All I get in VST mode is the kit page and nothing else. Is it just me or anyone else seeing this. BTW, the snare is quite nice on some settings. Overall, in standalone it's a pretty good useable kit. VST not so good.

I actually have a problem of latency as VST, tried to fiddle a bit with the multicore parameter but I think it's fully related to Kontakt. You can definitely change mics in VST, just double click when in drum view

Sid, There are buttons that switch the view on the right hand side of the interface, just below the top. Just press "Beats" to get to the beat folders, "Drums" to get to the Drums page, "Mix" to get to the mixer, etc....as was stated, you have to double click the mic to get it to change mics.... For free..this is a nice piece of kit... Peace!

Viola! I got it working! Just checked it and still no luck. Then I clicked on the little gear icon next to the internet button on the VST DrumMicA in X2. I chose the open folder and it went to the library folders. Opened and checked all those folders, closed the window which took me back to Sonar with the Kontakt window still open and VIOLA! Now it works just as good as the standalone! Don't know what happened. Just glad it did! LOL! Well, off to work.
