Dual Monitors

Hello all. I have a Dell Inspiron 580 with a Intel HD Graphics card, and would like to run dual monitors. The graphics card has both a VGA and a DVI output. I am currently running one monitor on VGA. Is it safe to assume that I can run the 2nd monitor from the DVI output?

Thanks,

Bob

Assuming your other monitor is DVI capable then yes.

Hey Jonesey. Thanks for responding. The PC has a HDMI out and the monitor has a DVI input - will that work with an adapter cable?

HDMI-DVI adapter/cable will work.. but what is the monitor's resolution ? If it's higher than 1920x1080, you may want to check if the PC's HDMI support higher resolution.

Thanks for responding. I can't find any info on the computer's HDMI resolution! It is a "Mini - Type D" HDMI connector, though. Maybe I'd be better off getting another graphics card.

Try with the DVI-HDMI adapter/cable first, before adding the card ?

    Bob,

My bad.. I did the search late. Your system does not seem to support dual monitors.

Looks like you need to add another card.

    Albert,

Rats! Well, at least the cable I ordered only cost me $3.85. I will be ordering the card suggested in your link. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Much appreciated!

    Regards,
