EDITED - NI Studio Drummer, 50% Off
I'm not a big fan of NI's marketing approaches or support, but their products are usually great (and just as usually, discontinued before long. ;) ) Plus, I know some of you guys here were interested in Studio Drummer. So here it is, almost 60% off. http://www.audiomidi.com/...hText=dailydeal_020112 EDIT - Just received NI's newsletter and they are letting it go at 50% til March 31st.

This also only runs in Kontakt 5 or the free K5 player....seems like a good deal though.

I'm betting not very many folks are upgrading to Kontakt5 or Komplete8 and NI is just trying to figure out ways to push you into it. I ain't bitin yet.

I just got SSD4 and I think my eternal quest for great drums is finally over. Normally I would jump this deal but I'm really blown away by SSD4. I'm a drummer who is obsessive about drums and I think I can finally just play and record. Anyone want to buy Addictive Drums cheap? OK, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Funny you mention that - I recently checked Addictive Drums for the first time. For some reason I'd always passed over it. Man, I don't know if it's just the demos, but w/ a similar deal as the one I had for EZ Drummer, I'm not sure I'd have picked EZ over AD. You really like SSD4 better than AD? I have SSD EX 3 but I just never use it - I always end up using EZ Drummer.

Rain - I've been an Addictive Drums user for years - it is better in most ways than Ezdrummer - the only thing that currently let Addictive down is that it is still 32 bit (although is performing with no issues in my new 64 bit system) and the Groove librarian is not as good as Ezdrummer - apart from that it is way better than Ezdrummer and very easy to use. I belive a new Addictive Drums version (64bit) will be coming pretty soon. I just purchased and downloaded SSD4 - nice but seems very unfinished - for instance when I first opened after installation, the sync to project BPM seemed to be working - 2nd time I opened it it was not! Apart from that seems pretty good, although I have to say I am a little mystified how everyone thinks this is the best product out there, especially at this moment when it would seem to need some more work. I have NI Studio Drummer and have never used it. This is not a slam on it just a reflection of too many drum packages and I have some that are really good already. I have the Slate 3.5 platinum stuff in Kontakt. Great sounding drums but I hate Kontakt and want to upgrade to SSD 4. My take on it is that if you are a drummer playing midi drums (VDrums etc) then it is great but if you are someone like me that needs to use midi grooves in the context of a DAW then it still has real growing pains. I have till the end of the month to figure out if I want to spend the cash. Ken

Thanks, Nigel and Ken. From what I've read, it's pretty typical of Slate. I'm not sure I totally get it when it comes to them. Don't know if it's because the products are under his own name, or because he insists on having his face on the boxes, or is constantly posing w/ celebrities, but between all that and the flakey releases, Slate doesn't come across as eminently "professional" - though it all settles itself out eventually and the products are good. The MIDI grooves are an essential part of my workflow here - even more than the sound quality to some extent because I'll have most of that stuff re-recorded w/ real drums anyway. And 32 bit still isn't an issue for me. That $149 deal on AD I saw recently really is more and more interesting. I could always use both EZ and AD. NI was really more of a heads up for whoever may be interested here. No go for me. Thanks for chiming in.

Thanks for the heads up Rain. I think I mentioned this earlier, but I have had a less than stellar past with NI. I was willing to let bygones be bygones though and a few events fell into place that had me upgrading to Kontakt 5. I have loved K5 and so the studio drummer is a viable upgrade path for me who- 1. Did not yet have a dedicated go to drum package yet. I have a few I'm checking out but had made no serious decisions as of yet. 2. Am no drummer and would like a program that is straight forward.Having too many choices is counter productive for me. 3.Liked the idea of having a program that was written with Kontakt 5 in mind and takes advantage of some of its scripting capabilities. 4.Wanted a native and functional 64 bit program. I did a little research on studio drummer and have read posts that are "supposedly" by drummers who regularly use controllers to trigger drums and own the top most three or four programs out there and a few of THEM say that they prefer Studio Drummer over even SSD and Superior drummer. BFD still gets high ratings among those who are into infinite tweaking and I still might end up upgrading from my eco version of BFD. That program is nothing to take lightly either. I'm sure that in the future there will be more sounds/packs offered for the NI Studio Drummer. It has been mentioned that the demo is over compressed and comes off a little underwelming, but those who have loaded and used the program seem to like it, so at this price I'm jumping in and I'll let you know how it all comes out.

I have SSD EX 3 but I just never use it - I always end up using EZ Drummer. SSD 3 is a different animal all toghether. They have that " in your face" highly processed sound that's good for some situations bu not for others. The SSD4 Deluxe kits sound undprocessed and very natural but still have punch and there's something about their overall sound/EQ that just works like I've been tweeking it for an hour. They still get closser to what I'm looking with no tweaking than if I had spent the time on them. It seems to me that Slate's talent is not just as an engineer but he seems to hear with producer ears when he created this library. BTW I rarley used anything but the snares in 3.5 but the reworked versions of the classic kits are far better and will now be usable to me. The kicks and toms are more articulate and less mussy/boome than the 3.5 versions of the same ones. YMMV.

You are getting a great product with Studio Drummer. I just purchased Komplete 8 and I love the sounds from SD and Abbey Road drums. The only draw back is the Kontact factor. You end up running a plug within a plug. There is LOTS of tweaking depth in Studio Drummer; far more than I'm ready to deal with right now but I know that I can grow into the more complex aspects with time. Session Drummer is OK but after using a better program I can see the shortcomings. If this deal was available last week I would have just gone for the drums instead of the full Komplete package.
