E-MU0404 sound card problems with sonarx3e

Hi:
I am running x3e and e-mu 0404 sound card pci with daughter card.
I have no problems with sound in a regular win environment. I have the integrated sound disabled.
When I start X3E I have to configure through the asio
driver settings and per track, outputs and inputs same thing.
however when I close sonar I have lost all sound. Movie maker fails, all sounds, media files web media etc all fail.
I have to open the emu notification icon exe and restore defaults for the e-mu card and then restart the system to restore the sound. I have searched quite extensively but to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated. thank you in advance

I don't think you will have this problem if you use sonar under WDM...
Your specs clearly state that your audio driver is a WDM driver.

You don't "HAVE" to use ASIO with sonar.
On my system the latency difference between WDM and ASIO is negligible.
*Plus, w/WDM you can use more than one audio interface simultaneously*

(your emu ASIO driver is probably the WDM with an ASIO wrapper...
this issue happens a lot with ASIO4ALL{another ASIO wrapper for WDM drivers}.)

Thank you for your reply. I tried as you suggested and used WDM, I had some functions but it kept failing. It has been suggested quite often that asio for emu and sonar are the way to go, I get hardly any dropouts and or freezes.
Switching to wdm didn't make any difference, something is rewriting my sound config file and its only against e mu. If I enable system sounds and use the webcam with the internal mic My movie maker works, but when I switch to emu wave for my mic input it fails, till I restore Emu defaults and restart win. Then its fine again till I leave cakewalk. I have tried every combination to no avail. I never had this prob in previous older installations
FYI I am using asioforall , I can lower my latency to 10 before I lose signal and or slow midi

I was using an 1820m until the pci card pooped.
For the past 3 years I have been using the beta driver:
    http://emu.com/index.php/component/phocadownload/file/5-pciedasbetadriver

This has been for windows 7, 8, and 8.1, all 64 bit.

I had one patchmix channel strip set to wave input. This routed ALL windows sounds to the 1820.
This meant I could record from browsers, and other windows sources into sonar.

The X series nuked this often. If Sonar was open before another windows sound program the windows program did not output.  And if a browser was open before sonar, Sonar would not have output.
And this was a bit intermittent.

So I had to use 8.5 to record from windows sources.

Currently using an basic USB interface that requires loop back for patching.

Try using the setting in the Unified Preferences view "Share Driver with Other Programs." If you didn't already try that.

8.53 worked fine. Starting any of the X's resulted in stupid.

No matter what the Sonar and window's settings.

Have you downloaded the latest driver for the 0404? I see that there is no Win 8 driver, though.
You should probably remove ASIO4All from your system before attempting to install Creative's real ASIO driver.
