EQ envelope - help needed

I'm happy with my rhythm guitar sound in my new track, but for the last 30 seconds of the song I've got a guitar solo. When I apply a notch filter to the rhythm guitar during the solo, it really makes the solo stand out, and all the notes can be heard clearly. (did the solo on the first take and very happy with it, that's why I want it standing out a bit clearer lol)

However I only want the EQ on the rhythm guitar during the guitar solo, so can anyone explain how I can do an EQ envelope so that the notch in the rhythm cuts in just as the solo starts? I'm using 'reaeq' - the Reaper plug in.

Cheers

    See: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1482240

Use Sonar EQ gain (envelope) after you've applied the notch.

I know nothing of this equalizer you're using, or if there are limitations to what can be automated with it. You might try using one of the bundled SONAR equalizers. For automated notching, either the Cakewalk graphic equalizer or the Sonitus equalizer should work fine. At least then you'd have better luck getting advice from others, most of whom are not going to have the Reaper EQ.

If you've already added the envelope, you'll also want to add four nodes to it: one where the EQ should start dipping, one to define the maximum dip, one to indicate where the EQ should start moving back to normal, and one to indicate the final value. Just double-click on the envelope to add a node. Don't worry about their precise positions, since you'll have to tweak them by auditioning your automation anyway.

Make the transitions between nodes 1 and 2 and between 3 and 4 slow curves. Make the line between 2 and 3 a jump. (Right click on the line to select the curve) Do not make the transitions too abrupt or the listener may become aware of your trickery, and you want it to be transparent. Let the transition happen over the first few notes of the lead rather than immediately at the beginning.

For the Sonitus, you have six bands that can be automated. Choose one of them, say band 5. First determine the center, width and depth of the notch by experimenting with the EQ during playback. Put the filter back to the neutral position and attach the automation envelope to that filter.

You may want to select nodes 2 and 3 (hold the CTL key down while clicking on each of them) so that you can adjust the intensity of the effect while listening to the playback.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

If you're using Sonar, make sure you check all the appropriate EQ checkboxes (2 should be lit up greenish).

Write click the plugin (in the Effects box), to get the menu, and choose Write Parameters from the menu.

Here you'll see what parameters are exposed to Sonar, and therefore, which parameters you can automate. (Some plugins will really surprise you!).

Enable the parameters you wish to use, right click on the corresponding track, and create a track envelope from that menu, and associate it with those parameters you just enabled.

    Then edit your envelope.
