EVEN scales, series of notes, arpeggios, etc -- does Quantize really do it?

The superficial answer is YES!   That's the whole point of quantize... or at least a big part of it.... to turn less than even on the beat improvisation into "more even" or on the beat improvisation.    Everything sounds a little more even, though perhaps more mechanical.

But WHAT IF?   WHAT IF I'm improvising, with no attention to the metronome or beat, and I'm real happy with the result EXCEPT for one scale in the middle of it all, or one series of notes, that I want perfectly even?????

What would or can SONAR do to make that discreet set of notes perfectly even?   Quantize won't work, because it forces notes to the nearest beat on the metronome, and I'm doing improv.   Or I could do the math, which would take time.  .....   Surely there's something in Sonar that can EVEN OUT, say 4 notes:  You highlight them; you press a key, and voila: they're evenly spaced!

Does that exist????

You can use set beat to now to place the grid upon your *improv* and then the spacing will appear even on the grid in between the points you reference. After you have set the in and out beats of the section you wish to work on you can quantize just the notes in the sub section to the grid that you just aligned to your improv.

I've wondered what programs might do this type of process more automatically myself... but don't have an answer to share.

    Good luck.

    best regards,

Funny... I WAS thinking about that approach last night.... I'll try it...
Yeah, you'd think a macro or cal or dedicated Sonar function would be real obvious here.

I can't be the only person to have wondered about this!

I'm not a MIDI power user... I was sort of hoping someone who was could help you out with a better approach.

    all the best,
