Yes, I have used the EWI USB on Sonar 1-3 and all of the platinum series.

    What is your problem?

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

I have Akai trying to help me with some problems, so far no luck. My question about Sonar is How to use the EWI to work with aria Control. I wish to record Horn tracks using the wind controller with Garritan and Aria. My problem is trying to get EWI to work in Sonar. The EWI only seems to work with its own Garritan 4 tracks. That are included with its softmare. I am using a PC and have used Cakewalk DAWs for over 20 years. I am using Sonar X2 64 bit. Within EWI when I try to click on the controllers menu The program stops responding. I tell you this if it may be a hint to the problem. AKAI has not been able to solve that problem so far. I have set the EWI as the inputting instrument, I see The EWI garritan iinstruments as available in the Aria screen. But if I select anything other than the EWI instruments I get no results. (Personal orch 5, Instant orch, Jaab.) I hope that you might let me know the hoops that you jump through to have EWI recognized just as my Kbds are. Thank you for any advice you might have.

Jack, if this is redundant just let me know as I am starting from the beginning.

The EWI may work because the MIDI input is set to omhi. That is it will play whatever MIDI controller you have (wind, keyboard, etc) on any of the 16 MIDI channels.

Sonar has to be set up exactly for it to work on any anything but omhi. in the track view bring up an Aria Player and a MIDI track then do the  following:
A - pick a patch in the Aria Player
1-  In the MIDI track set the input to EWI channel 1, (this assumes that you did not change the EWI USB to a different output channel - if you did set it to your EWI USB output channel)
2 - Make sure that the output is to the Aria Player
3 - Make sure that the output MIDI channel matches the Aria Player MIDI channel. The first slot in the Aria is MIDI channel 1, the second 2 etc.  Look on the lower right hand corner of the slot and you should see an 01, 02 etc.  If not click on the  arrows so that slot #1 becomes 01 and then sequentially to the last #16 slot.

I included dropbox picture so hopefully you can see them.  You may have to sign up for the free version of Dropbox.

Let me know how you make out.

    Mario D,
I'm sorry this has taken so long to reply to. I have tried everything, and have come to the conclusion that Sonar X2 just doesn't like the EWI software. The software is 2009 with no updates. Is your EWI software any later?

When starting Sonar I get the message of no inputs or outputs. Having the EWI software open allows me to choose EWI as the inputting midi instrument in sonar, however even though one of my choices is EWI, Sonar continues to tell me that I have not selected any inputting instruments. From here I can go no further.
In Aria I can see the EWI instruments as valid VST instruments along with GPO, IO, and JAAB, I cannot select any of the EWI instruments without having Sonar stop responding. It just Quits. I can still run Sonar Flawlessly without EWI present.
I do media film scoring with many other sample libraries but once the EWI software is started, my work comes to a screeching halt. If Anyone would like to buy an EWI I have one for sale. Perhaps it will run on a Mac. I'm a PC guy.
Since I have deadlines to make I've given up on even keeping the EWI software installed. I'm having some success with my Yamaha WX5, but the MIDI signal is very quiet, and my thumb is not as precise on faster passages as I would like. I wish that the WX5 had that 20 millisecond delay that the EWI has. It would make up for my left thumb sloppiness. It's hard to relearn octave key after 50 years of playing sax professionally. I am glad that the sequencing angels are looking out for you and your EWI, perhaps I just pissed them off.

Just a thought here, but maybe try the current Sonar demo to rule out possible software incompatibilities with X-series Sonar?
