EXPORT-AUDIO BUTTON GREYED OUT

Hi I am using home studio 7 XL. I am trying to convert a MIDI drum pattern to audio. I am sure I have done this before using FILE-EXPORT-AUDIO. Unfortunately the AUDIO is greyed out. Any ideas anyone?

The MIDI file plays ok. I have muted unwanted tracks just leaving the drum track. I tried 'soloing' the drums as well but no joy. I guess its a simple setting change required somewhere but the manual is no help. The manual says I can also convert MIDI to audio by Bouncing the track to another track. Bouncing the track is no use as I get an error message saying I have 'no audio', which is correct but exactly what I'm trying to achieve.

Just for info I am using a Boss BR-800 and want to import the drum pattern (using the wave converter) into the 800 to record against. It looks like the wave converter requires a 'wav' file first before it can convert it into BR-800 audio data.

Thanks
Pete

You need to have something (e.g. tracks, clips) selected first before trying to bounce or export.

If you have separate audio- and MIDI-tracks, both of them must be selected, if you have simple instrument track, you need to select the track, not the clip (=click the track number, not the clip).

And if it's just a MIDI track with no soft synth, you can't do it that way. If the MIDI track is playing through your keyboard, you need to record the keyboard's output to an audio track.
If you're using the Microsoft GS Wavetable synthesizer, it will be more difficult.
What are you using to hear the MIDI?

    That's the $64 question.
You cannot bounce or export the MS Wavetable synth.

But replacing it with TTS-1 is pretty easy, and will make life much more pleasant.
