EZ keys .... sounds EZ ?

I don't have any gripes about using a product like this, tried the demo but two big concerns.  The library seems very small and limited and the playing is quite simplistic sounding.
I'm a guitar player first, but have owned synths for a bit, but never really mastered keyboard playing.  I can bang out the basic chords, but can't really solo like a wild man..
To me, the EZ keys sounds at about the level of a keyboard hack that I am.  The song files are basically Berklee 101 and I was kind of disappointed in the demo that this puppy doesn't really rock.  Seems geared towards ballad junk (yeah..there's other styles), but just very basic playing.  People that love it say "it will help my song writing"... Well if playing Imaj, IVmaj7, VImin, IImin7, V7 is a new tune to you, then you need to look at a fake book.

Am I wrong?

I would be interested to hear other opinions about this since I haven't tried the demo and was considering based on video and other opinions that never made such a comment about the simplicity and "hack' status of the software offerings.

I have it and haven't used it for the midi patterns yet. I believe this is something that ToonTrack will build upon in the future, as they have for the drummer series. I basically use it occasionally as a chord analyzer for now. You can play real time and it will analyze, or you can input an midi file and "colorize" your chords (voicing and extensions). Until they come out with better patterns to base your songs off of, I'd stick to playing it yourself unless you find something redeemable there. Cheers, Reginald K.Son

I don't have it, but honestly I would not have expected that it would include much more than basic MIDI phrases and would never have expected it to have solo pieces.

thx for the replies. ... I'm not expecting it to solo like Jan Hamer, but the note timing seems so basic.  The audio demos show these very simple appegios and the demos I've heard on YouTube by users sound similar.... the pno plunking out I, III, V, VII in eighth notes or whatever.  Same with just hitting block chords.

Granted, I haven't really delved into making it do inversions and such, but it sounds very quantized to me as well.

I've been known to be wrong, however.  I'd love to embrace this kind of software, since I'm not a keyboard player ...just a keyboard owner!!
