EZDrummer problem

Now using X2 and putting together my first new project since upgrading a few weeks ago. The issue is, I can load EZDrummer into the project and set up the tracks like I have done in the past with no problems, I can preview grooves, but when I drag the groove to the track I get a message that says "Cannot find or open file"       I've never had this happen....Any ideas? Should I do a uninstall / Reinstall?    Thanks, Ken

Sounds like Sonar or EZ Drummer aren't pointing towards your groove file folders wherever they are located. Some kind of scan is probably in order or adding of system folders but I don't know how to do that with grooves in Sonar or EZdrummer. Maybe check the manuals.

Ez and X2 here and all is well.  That's a new message to me, too.

Did you just install X2 on top of X1 and everything else (i.e. existing plugs etc.)?

I noticed I only have the 32 bit version installed. that could be part of my problem.

    Are you using x64 EZdrummer?

I seem to remember reading something about 32bit plugs not docking in X1 x64.

I'm clutching at straws..  Is X2 seeing the 32 bit EZdrummer?  Does it have the bit bridge icon?

Where are you dragging the MIDI     files from - EZD or the browser?

I'm off to bed now (it's twenty to three here), but I'll look in in the morning.

    Hope you get this sorted..

I think this is where the problem lies. I downloaded the 64 bit updated back in July but when I run it, it goes through its motions but the EZDrummer64 does not list in my programs. And when I run plugin manager I only see EZDrummer 32 bit. I think I need to reinstall tomorrow.

Our posts must have crossed.  It was the multidock issue that rang a bell.

Hope that sorts it.  Post back if re-install does or doesn't work..

Sorry if it's obvious, but is EZdrummer x64 in a directory scanned by Sonar for plugs, and have you rescanned vsts?

As of last night, I uninstalled / reinstalled / downloaded the 64bit update / installed that /  but cant find any files that say EZDrummer 64bit. The ship has run aground. I will continue searching for my issues after work tonight.

Tracked mine down to Program files/cakewalk/Vstplugins.  It's called ezdrummer.dll - it doesn't mention the 64bit in its name.  The sounds etc. are in Program Files(x86)/Toontrack/EZDrummer.

    Don't know if that helps..

I actually figured it out! The Internet is a wonderful thing, I just needed to find the secret file (that was the hard part) and steer it in the right direction. Up and running again in 64 bit mode. Thanks everyone for the help.

Before you get too happy, I'm hoping that you created a path to the file in SONAR and didn't drag and drop the file into a different folder.

Like a lot of these 64 bit installers EZdrummer doesn't see the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins folder and so will create it's own folder and install the 64bit dll file there instead. Usually something like C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\whatever.

It's quite ok to simply move the dll file to the cakewalk vst folder and rescan. Alternately you can point cakewalks vst path to C:\Program Files\Vstplugins but I prefer the first method.

Thanks Dave, the path is there, the drum kit screen page says 1.3.1 64 bit at the bottom and I can drag the groove to the proper track like the way it used to be.

This is the usual mistake people make.  All of the registry entries are still pointing where the Toontrack installers placed the DLL.  Now when you run the next TT update on EZD, it will likely plunk a new DLL back at that point and your Cakewalk directory version won't be updated unless you remember to drag and drop the new version of the DLL into the VSTplugins directory.  This is a workable situation but I've seen it bite people unexpectedly.

I don't think it's a mistake. I mean I've not (as yet) had any problems doing it that way.

I can see what you mean about the registry and update paths but as I said, my preferred method is to take care and read where the installer wants to install your 64bit dll before you go ahead.

I have moved the dll and then later run an update and got a message saying, "can not locate BFD Eco 64bit dll" (or whatever) and in that case I just pointed it to cakewalks vst folder and that worked as expected and also corrected the registry too.
