EZMix updated to 2.1.0
Toontrack has announced that EZmix 2.1.0 is now available. This update is recommended for all users but particularly those running the latest operating systems released by Microsoft and Apple. Note that version 2.1.0 is required for the support of EZmix packs released from this point forward (Q2 2015). New in v2.1.0: - the standalone has been redesigned and allows an effect chain of up to five instances of the plug-in.
- a tuner has been added in the plug-in (though not in the Demo or Lite versions).
- added support for a few new effects - graphically, a Sampler unit has been placed on one shelf.
Improved in v2.1.0: - filters are now saved in projects.
- the metronome in the standalone can now play triplets.
- improvements have been made to the authorization dialogs - for example, if a product is already registered to your account, you will no longer need to type in its serial number when authorizing online.
- first instantiation of the plug-in has been made faster.
Fixed in v2.1.0: - the standalone should no longer crash when you try to use an input or output channel with a number higher than 32.
- in Audio Setup in the standalone, selected input channels are no longer reset when you select a different output device.
- with certain sound cards on Mac, starting the standalone after having used a DAW at a sample rate other than 44.1 kHz, the sound was distorted.
- some old preset names have been slightly adjusted, for example "12Bit" was changed to "12-Bit".
IMPORTANT: this release is tested on Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 upwards only. It is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 or Windows XP. Users with these earlier operating systems are advised to remain at version 2.0.9.

EZMix is legit. I've been using the standalone version with this new update and I've had a lot of fun with it. The amp presets are better than I expected an amp simulator to sound. In fact, I'm starting to question why I need to mic up an amp for my own projects. If you want to open a preset and then see what you come up with, it's great. Now that you can stack various presets in the rack, there's even more you can do with the standalone. Me, I've learned to keep the tuner open in it's own rack module on top so that I don't have to open it when I go crazy bending strings.

Thanks to Larry and It's always good to hear from Dave on Toontrack products. Obviously aimed at Dave, but has anyone heard of any plans for a new version of EZ Player Pro? I would love to have one with EZ D2 search features.

I used to use EZMix a lot. Then I felt bad since a lot of people were slamming the idea (engineering purists pfffft). When I have a few more sheckels I may get some of the newer packs. Of course I will update to 2.1.0 tonight.

I played around with the update and the new rack deal is really nice. Build chains with multiple presets. I like it a bunch. And the tuner is a very nice tuner. Tuners can vary so much with too sensitive or not enough. This one is one I like, YMMV. I keep liking the Ambient Pack more and more also. EZ Mix lets you try some things you think you might like. When you find one you do you can only tweak it so much and then you HAVE TO move on. It helps me make choices and that keeps me moving. I think I just talked myself into getting the New Lo-Fi Pack.

LOL, that was a mini seminar on addictive behavior, wasn't it? the thing on choices keep you moving is something I need to remember. Trust your experience, trust your musicianship, trust your arranging ability, trust your love of music. If a track needs some compression, give it some and move on. In my experience, thinking of yourself as the Producer helps you get more done and faster than thinking of yourself as the Engineer. If you are good at that stuff it's a big advantage to you. But if you aren't a great Engineer, hire one. You can get JJP, Chris Lord Alge or EZ Mix. Craig Anderton is even willing to share his presets with you. Use their prests, tweak them, and save them with your name on them. Just remembber to be the Producer. He keeps things moving. How many people think Axel Rose's Chinese Democracy is 40 times better than if he would have done it in 6 months? The most it could be is one. It should be zero. Avoid things than cause you to loose momentum. Don'throw it away. It's way too valuable. And fragile. Loss of momentum drains passion. Passion is were your creative.gift lives. Don't burn down the house. I hope this wasn't just gibber jabber. Man, I need to remember this stuff! One of the things I love the most is when working on a song sometimes you force it to turn out the way you saw it. Other times you have to submit and follow the song. Sometimes you partner with it. And that can change lots of times during the process. That really keeps it fresh and fun for me.

It's tempting, but something tells me I should put my time and effort into getting better with Sonar..........just sayin. I do have enough plugins with presets, ezd2 for drums, nectar for vocals, Pod Farm for guitars and basses, and I only need B3,Rhodes, and Farfisa type tones for any keys that may arise. What I am trying to say, is that I tried some 3rd party plugins like Bias and S-Gear, but I don't like how they sound in Sonar. I was using TH2 Producer for both guitar and bass, but Pod Farm suits me better and I am familiar with Line 6 modelling over the years. So, I guess I should ask, what do you feel you are gaining again by getting EZMix?

Charly, it's really a preset thing, but it's also really good. If you go through the presets list per pack, you'll see that some of them are (or are not) up your alley. Two examples: I like to use the cello, well there's a preset in The Mix Toolbox. I like to have a Supertramp-style preset for Wurli and for sax, well there's a Peter Henderson pack for that, as he was Breakfast in America's mix wizard. But on the keys topic, do you use the Overloud VKFX effects that originally came from Scarbee? That's a ProChannel plugin full of wonderful keyboard presets.

EZ Mix is a nice product, and I used it a lot until I purchased Alloy2 from Izotope, which I use in a similar fashion. But both products are useful, especially when you are not an advanced engineer. Alloy2 probably is more useful to the true engineers among us, but it's presets are useful and cover a fair amount of ground, although not as many as EZ Mix does. Will run the update and try it out later. Appreciate the info, I hadn't received word from Toontrack about this as of yet.

Typically they don't send out update notifications. You have to check your account regularly. Most companies don't send out update notifications. They believe it is your responsibility to keep up with the product.

Come to think of it, my mixing efforts rest on four pillars, two more or less easy (EZMix2 and Alloy2) and two less or somewhat easy (T-RackS and Slate's 3-letter-acronyms). Weakest link: me.
