One thing I noticed is the "Duplicate Track" icon to the right of the add track icon . This creates a duplicate of the selected track - by default sans contents. Right click the icon for more options.
Also, if the source track is a simple instrument track, it also creates a duplicate instance of the vst soft synth rather than simply a second reference to the source vst soft synth.

It'd be good to get an announcement regarding this. I mean if that's what Cakewalk has committed to - beginning of each month - then I for one would appreciated knowing when it's planned - if they're late - and also what fixes/enhancements/additions are coming. They used to do the latter and I liked reading about what was coming.
I've read other where other members say that if the enhancements are small, then they wouldn't mind waiting for a few months until more substantial changes are ready. I agree with this - unless of course fixes are needed - as it would put less pressure on Cakewalk to offer something monthly. I imagine there's a lot of work involved with doing this on a monthly basis.

Yeah, not sure why the default does not duplicate audio but it is easy to fix with right-click. Fortunately the settings are persistent across sessions. Finally, it is possible to create a duplicate instrument track. Clone track in the track context menu has also been change to duplicate track. It does show a dialog similar to the old clone track dialog and supports the improved instrument track handling.
